Re: fishing in norway No Les, no licence but you will have to be carefull. The bigger and more powerfull the boat the better are your chances of decent fish. But also the bigger are the boating risks and March is not the time of year to swimm home. So do make sure you have a good plotter on the boat. Take a good quality suit, and very warm underwear. Try a fleece overall under your suit and lined rubber boots. Make sure that you at least have a mobile phone with you and sombodys tel.nummber. They don't have a RNLI coast guard where you can radio in and tell somone when you'll be back like in the UK. The coast guard there only act in an emergency and if it's your own fault you can end up paying the helicopter search and rescue mission, it does happen but better than the misses paying for a wake! Also take a light set up with you and a few light pirks between 60 and 100 g. Thats how I caught the coalfish in the picture, great sport. Like I said I'll be off to Hitra in April your welcome if you or any of your freinds want to come. Rob

Re: fishing in norway Hi Les. I just read thru the thread again. I thought you where going further north. The skrei don't run down as far as Bergen but you still have a good chance of some good fish if you can get out of the fjords and out to sea. But 20 kg is a realistic max for that region. On the up side you won't have such big problems with nets. If you get on to the open Atlantic you have a chance of picking up some big coalfish tho. The main thing is to use your local guide as much as you can. You'll need pirks that weigh around 300 and 400 g, SJigger and the above mentioned Svenskapilk will do well. Also try bottom fishing with bait for torsk ling and norway haddock. How are you travelling? Rob

Re: fishing in norway Hi Grasshopper. That’s A good tip but don't get caught as the fines are very high if you have too much booze along. Some guys on the way to Hitra last year where pulled up and searched. The customs took pity on them and only confiscated part of their alcohol and they had to pay 7000€ in fines and duty. The trouble was; the bank card would only pay out 2000 € a day so the car was confiscated until the fine was paid in full. They did a bank transfer in the end but it still cost them 2 - 3 days fishing. So yes a bottle or two does make it easy to get to know the right people but be careful. Where were you and what did you catch? I like spinning of the rocks in summer, there are some incredible shore Pollack to be caught. Takes me back to being a kid on the Isle Of Man. Rob

Re: fishing in norway i was living up in a place called honefoss about 30miles nw of oslo but i only went the once to a friends house for dinner in kristiansand some time in november or early december but he was skint so we all went down for a short to his local rocks as he lived on an island just out side town we caught some small tosks (i think its spelt that way) but it was good old boiled cod for dinner as it made a change from the reindeer burgers i was living on at the time as for taking wiskey just take two bottles and if your stopped then say they are a gift for a friend as im sure you are allowed at least one bottle then just let them keep the other one claiming you did not know the laws there the custom man will probly keep it for himself =) __________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. -Dr. Seuss

Re: fishing in norway I never had any problems with small amounts either but some people do go over the top. I havn't fished that far south. But I have spent a lot of time on Hitra the last two years. Did you ever get up that way? Apart from that, there seems to be some things brewing in KristiansUnd which is just south of Hitra. I may go and take a look in spring. Rob
