| Re: fishing in norway HI lezza. You'll need 30 50 gear and a selection of pirks and gummi-makks (Norwegian rubber eel). A very good method is to include a big treble behind your gummi-makk. As you catch a small coalfish on the way down on the gummi-makks the treble will catch big cod that try and snatch the coaly. My best fish this year was 26,5 kg. The best pirk is the Solvkroken Svenskapilk. Expensive but it outfishes everything else. Try and use a guide if possible at least once or twice and ask him if you can store the marks he shows you in your gps. Make sure you have the best boat available with the best engine and electronics. If you end up fishing for skrei (artic cod that are spawning) you may have a problem getting them to bite and you may also have a problem avoiding the nets as just about everyone is out there after there quota about then. Have fun, Rob |

| Re: fishing in norway @lezza I've spent a lot of time around Hitra and have been as far as Sørøya which is where I caught the cod on the other pic. Hitra is a great place to fish if you know where to go and have the right material. The coalfish there regularly top 15kg and there are some very big ling. But the marks and the right boat and equipment are very important. Rob |

| Re: fishing in norway You should see some big cod but if your fishing for skrei they may be difficult to hook as they're full of spawn. The other difficulty is all the nets that are around. But you do have a chance of seeing fish over 25 kg! Use a good quality 50 or 60 lb braid with a short top shot and killer rig with a gummi-makk rubber eels and a good quality pirk and you'll be okay. Dont go below 1mm mono for your trace line, I've taken to using 1,4mm recently. Rob |

| Re: fishing in norway Skrei is the Norwegian term for arctic cod that come out of the Barents Sea to spawn each year. They are the big cod that are fished for in late winter. There are huge nummbers of them and there are a lot of very big fish but they are hard to catch as they are on a spawning run. also wherever there are big nummbers of big cod there are big nummbers of comercials and nets. I use Solvik swivels that are available in Norway but Berkley cross lock is a good alternative. Make sure that you have a good supply of 8/0 to 12/0 trebles all in XXX strength as fifty pound gear will straighten most trebles with such fish. You do have a good chance of connecting with a 25 kg fish so be sure that the gear is up to the job. A good multi like the shimano tld II trinidad 30 or a high speed senator should do the job. Typical wrecking gear as for uk conger will do fine. If I'm bait fishing I use Mustad O'shaunaseys (hows that spellt) between 6/0 and 10/0 pennel rigged. Glad you like the pictures, anything else?
