Aquariums

I know there is at least one other person on the site that has a fish tank at so i thought it would be an idea to start a thread on em....just an idea!!

if you were in the chat room last evening then you would probably heard me talking of the set up i got from ebay.....well i decided to post a couple of pics on ere to show you what i got for my money

The fish tank was one year old, The water had been matured for a year,

The tank is 40" in length, 19 1/2 " high and 16" wide.it has 3 lights, internal filter, internal heater, external Fluvel 204 filter.

The first pic is the tank a day after seting it up in its new home............

The livestock consists of 3 Clown Fish -,( 1 Maroon Clown Fish, 1 Yellow Nemo, 1 Black nemo clown fish, ) 1 Boxer Shrimp, 1 Starfish, 1 black sea urchin, 1 small sea cucumber, 1 large sea apple, rock of carpet anenome, snails, and loads of live rock!

The second pic is a shot of my fav thing in the tank....my Boxer shrimp...now his cool........

And one last one of my Black nemo, even the urchun sneaked in.........

so there you go, thats my newest fish tank....and all for 300 quid..cant be bad

Hope the thread takes a grip with some more pics and information on your own tanks as im sure it would be very interesting to see and read about each and everyone of yours....being cold tropical or marine.....they all worth talking about!!

cheers

Ollie.

Re: Aquariums

Looks great mate.

I used too keep tropicals, and had some lovely big silver sharks, clown loach, angel fish, corydoras (sp?), various catfish and various pleco's.

I then switched too cold water fish, and had some tench, koi carp and mirror carp.

Unfortunately, due too moving house I had too pass them onto my uncle who now keeps them in his pond, great seeing them on the surface.

Re: Aquariums

Shame you had to get rid of your tank Dan!

Was a great looking tank with the tropicals in there unfortunatly i cant remember what it looked like with the coldwater fish in! i expect that was a fantastic looking tank also!

Did you find them easy to keep or did you have any troubles at all? i know i had a few teething problems with my tropicals at first but never really thought about the cold water species!

Re: Aquariums

Not really mate. The switch over was easy, cos all I had too do was turn the heater off (I think..)

I don't know if I managed too get any decent pics for you, but I thought it looked quite good. I used fake plants (preffered them as looked good, plus not as much mess)

Re: Aquariums

im glad someone started this thread.
ive been thinking of getting a new tank myself. i used to keep tropical fish but this time id want to try marine fish.

what sort of equipment would i need for this and would it be alot harder than keeping tropicals?

ive been told the main change is something called red salt? not sure if this is right though so any info will be much appreciated.

also do you buy the fish from speacialist places? most of the pet supermarkets only sell tropical and cold water and i refuse to buy fish from there anyway, mainly because of the lack of experience in the people working in the shops

Re: Aquariums

What do you fish owners use as food, or found the best food?

I use too find they liked live/frozen bloodworm but, I believe it's not too good for them too have all the time, so used too feed them flake as well. And put in the odd algae tablet for the plec's

Re: Aquariums

I use normal flake food and the occasional tubeflex block (very small worm). I also use.......wait for it.....trout pellets.
You can buy a big bag for about £3-4 and its the same as you get from the aquarium centres, there they charge a bloody fortune, about £3.50 for a small pot.

Hiya mate.....Gald you been thinking of setting up another tank...i got both tropical and marine tank set up at the moment and to be honest i find them about the same dificaulty to keep!

when i brought my marine tank it had been running for a year with regular water changes so it was prety well ballanced! there seems to be alot more stuff involed if you want to get really into keeping marines ie Protein skimers and sumps and stuff but if you like me and want to keep it simple then you can get away without them and just use two filters...one internal and one external and plenty of live rock! you really want to be turning the water round in the tank about four times an hour so i would suggest getting an exturnal bigger then what recomended for the tank! I wouldnt recomend getting anything smaller then the size of my tank as you wouldnt be able to have many due to the lack of space! and it would be very hard to keep!

I got my fish with my tank but they do sell them at my local live fish shop....and your right its hard to find a place that sell em as they seem to be all tropicals.....but if you try hard im sure your find a suplier closer then you think to home!

To be honest mate if your gonna go for it and dont want to wait for the tank to settle for 6 or so weeks before youstart adding fish and that then id suggest looking on ebay....you get quite alot selling marine tanks with live stock!! its where i got mine mate!! 300 quid and only had to travel 10 miles along the coast! was lucky!

good luck if you decide to go with it and feel free to pm me with any questions mate!! and i'll try find out for ya!

sorry that was a breif and simple post but im not a profesional yet...lol

Ollie.
