Water proof camera ,anyone have one ???

Last sundays outing ,and my trusty old Konica £99 camera ,seems to have mist on the inside of the lens cover ,so after a 6 year battering on the Lady Helen and numerous shore trips ,its time to retire the old thing . Have been looking at a few differant "waterproof" cameras and am inclined to go for this one Pentax W90 ,waterproof to 20ft ,shockproof up to 4 ft ,and will function upto -10 ( a typical winters day in the Bristol channel lately )

Does anyone have any thoughts/ideas or experiances of any of the outdoor cameras ????

I know for certain that Peter (dubbed squirrel) has one cause he took some lovely shots with it last year, he will hopefully see this thread and give you any advice he can.

yeah makes sense. i like this camera whatever the colour its got lots of good features and i think its perfect for fishing. i've lost count of how many cameras i've left behind, trod on and dropped in the water. think i might start saving my pennies for one of these.

Thumbs up Re: Water proof camera ,anyone have one ???

Hi, Great looking camera, probably one of the best compacts for fishing in the price range, has a great review. Love the underwater features, tried a few photos last season, but kept forgetting to switch to the u/water mode. The photos still came out ok, especially in the slightly coloured river. I have the Fuji WP Z, that fits in the top pocket of my fly waistcoat and I used it for most of the photos I took last season. I just rinse it down with bottled water and dry it off with a clean cloth after use, they`re so versatile, definitely a robust camera tailor made for fishing. I`ve actually left mine lying on the river bed switched on ready to use, while playing a fish.

Re: Water proof camera ,anyone have one ???

Just as a suggestion, would it be cheaper to purchase a normal digital camera with a water proof case? This would open up a wider choice of cameras as well.

Yes you can definatly get a cheaper one ,but when its out of the case ,is the danger time ,water , droping it and low temperatures can damage it,in fact i think using my old one in the freezin temps last week, finished it off

My cheappie Konica ,survived 6 yrs on my charter boat and hundreds of beach trips, even tho its fairly battered now and has condensation inside it ,due to the below zero temps .

The good thing about the W90 is that its waterproof to 6 ft ,and can actually be submerged to take underwater pictures,is shook/drop proof to 4ft ,and can stand -10 temps without a problem
