Question Forum Help

I'm still struggling to post pictures on the forum. Heres what I am doing ...hopefully someone can tell me where I am going wrong.

My camera takes photos at 1600 X 1200 pixels and the file size is approx 300 kb. Says they are too big ...maximum allowed is 1176 x 880 ( or something like that)

So I open photo in photoshop 7 . and reduce size to 800 x 600...this brings the file size down to about 70 kb.and save as a new pic..Try the upload with the new file....same message...

So...I open in photoshop...click save for web option and select a higher compression ratio for the jpeg...leaving me a jpeg 800x600 at 25kb....open this file in dreamweaver and it shows as exactly that size and dimension when viewed as a trial webpage. Try the upload ...and same message ...file too large

So...I try the faq...there is no mention in there of photos at all...but it says I can attach a file to my post in the format jpeg, bmp etc ...is this what i should be doing?

Any help would be appreciated..oh and by the way I tried mspaint as well with same result.

Dave.

Re: Forum Help

I remember reading that photos can't be any larger than 400pixels wide.

Also if you have photoshop you'll have image ready so transfer the file into that and choose optomise. I can get huge files down to almost nothing with minimal quality loss.

Re: Forum Help

Thanks for the comment simon....but a quick check on the gallery shows photo's up to 1200+ wide (nimues boat slips the mooring at 7am)....although the vast majority of them are under 500 wide.

I will certainly try compressing them further..but i'm starting to think this may be a problem with the router not having the right port open to transfer the file... the same thing happens when i try to dcc send using mirc.

Has anyone else had problems with a firewall whilst on the forum?

Dave.

Re: Forum Help

Should be no problems keep them small say 400 pxs wide and aim for 4 - 10K file size ( this is so they load fast )
