Cool Pigeons,Any ideas please!

Hi, This is silly i know... I went fishing yesterday and left the house at 5am, all along my 45 minute journey on the road were hundreds & hundreds of wood pigeons!? not just a few, there were loads! as soon as you got near in the car they flew off, only to see more round the corner.
Anyone know why pigeons sit on the road early in the morning? what are they looking for?
I know there is less traffic but has anyone else seen this before?

Re: Pigeons,Any ideas please!

maybe there are scraps of food on the road tht ppl have thrown out of cars and they would get run over in the day, so they do it in the morning (although considering the IQ of a pigeon thats a big IF ) - Yep, Im pike pirate, dad didnt log out again...the problems of one computer in the house eh?

hmmm...to expand on my other point....its practically the harvest season isnt it? meaning lots of seeds being blown onto the roads or falling off lorries as they are being transported...and then my idea about the being run over in the daytime

On holiday of course.

Its quite obvious to me that they are going on holiday. They cant fly in the dark so they walk. Its not easy walking on grass when you have such small feet so they find tarmac ideal. Early morning motorists are just witnessing the few who have not taken to the air yet.
