My 6 day Ebro adventure days 5&6

Off again at 0830 and this morning its hot already and i didn't have too much to drink last night so i should be OK, and as we drive along the river bank the Dutch guys have not even set up yet so we just carried on to our swim, shortly after Alan gets the baits out the wind starts to pick up again but today its really blowing in fact it was blowing so hard i even considered saying that we should call it a day, being sand blasted all day really isn't much fun but i say to myself maybe it will ease a bit later (wishful thinking) some how Alan still manages to get the baits out without the out board but today its not just the weather against us but the fishing is hard going to,about 1100 no 1 cat rod springs into life but this is no monster and i say to Alan its a carp and when it gets to half way and goes on a run i change my mind and say its a small cat and 5 min later i have a kitten of guesstimate 25lb

It then went really quiet that is apart from the wind howling along the valley,i did get a run on no 2 carp rod about 1600 which i expertly played in to the margins before it slipped the hook but that was that but at least with Alan's persistence we hadn't blanked and as we all know nothing in fishing is guaranteed although the way some clients behave it does make you wonder what sort of anglers they really are anyway we still did better than the poor Dutch guys,oh one last thing while i was back at the bar that night i commented to Martin that i couldn't work it out why i was only having 10-12 pints and a couple or three extremely large g&ts and was feeling so bad in the morning ha ha it was then that he told me that the estrelle was 5.5% no wonder still it would be rude to stop now
So on to day 6 and this morning and just for a change i feel s*** well i wouldn't have it any other way, just to make a change the Dutch hadn't had any cats but they had had a couple of nice carp and a bit later on they managed a kitten of 15lb
we soon had the baits out and today although not as windy as the last two days there was still quite a strong breeze but it was comfortable and at least we weren't going to be shot blasted all day,at about 10.30 Alan says he will have a smoke and then change the bait on no 2 rod and just as i get my baccy out to roll one no 2 lurches forward and yes this is no kitten and for some reason this fish also decides to head down river and it certainly feels a good fish,Alan just sits there smoking his fag and drinking a can of pop while i am trying to get some sort of hold on the fish but it didn't want to play ball and although there's a nice breeze i am starting to work up a good sweat but after another 10 Min's i have it in mid stream and its just a matter of keeping its head pointing at me and it wont be long before i have my prize at the bank and Alan again comes out with those words BIG FISH mate and to be honest i really cant believe the week i am having and this corker hits the scales at 161lb

I say to Alan i am having a Victor Meldrew moment (I DONT BELIEVE IT) my 4th cat over 150lb that's just unbelievable mate and to be honest it didn't really sink in until i got back to the bar that evening bloody hell what a week, any way at 11.15 no 1 carp rod goes of and i bag a nice little common of 17lb and at 1400 no 1 cat rod lurches over again and for crying out loud this ones a steamer and not once did it ever surface but just stayed deep and kept going on long painful runs up and down the river and even Alan saying this is the hardest fight yet it just wouldn't give up and i was thinking maybe just maybe i might break the 200lb mark with this one anyway what seemed a age later Alan's once again in the river and although a cracking fish it was not what we both thought it might of been but still a spanker coming in at 126lb

About 1700 i hooked and lost another carp but that was the last action that i was to see on my 2nd Ebro adventure,so over the week although i didn't catch great numbers i had pbs for common, mirror and cat and after a quick tot up i had 10 cats for an average of over 100lb in my opinion that really is some going,I must give a big big thank you to Martin and Alan who really did manage to give me one hell of a weeks fishing and we did manage a odd beer or two as well so well done guys oh i almost forgot i had such a good week that i have already paid for a week next year with catfish capers but this time i am going at the end of September to try and catch a big one
and while on the subject if any of you guys out there fancy tagging along give me a shout the more the merrier
I know you guys who have read my recent reports might find it hard to believe but as it was my last night i wandered down stairs to the Jolly Fisherman for a beer or three or was it 4-5-6-7-8 whos counting and thanks to those people who wrote under my threads as it takes me bloody hours to write these things and the replys make it all worth while after all i am only a SIMPLE MAN
So next stop is Guinea Bissau in November and this place is a sea anglers dream
tight lines guys&girls and good luck on your own angling adventures
