My 6 day Ebro adventure day 3

Hi guys as day 2 was short and sweet i will have a bash at day3,I don't know why but this morning i am like a bear with a sore head:icon_ jook well it is supposed to be a holiday!!!!! Last night we had a guy come in the bar who guides for another company and they too were finding the fishing tough going in fact no cats for a week, there was another English guy who was out with his Mrs and he fished a day then a day off and so on for a week and he had only managed one medium cat in 3 days, anyway its not long before we are back down the river the Dutch had a kitten last night of 18lb and were in very low spirit
It wasn't long before Alan had the gear set up and the 2 cat rods were going out again, and while Alan was coming back in the boat there was a splash in the margins and he said it was a zander,i said that i had never seen let alone caught one and he asked me if i would like to have a go ? why not mate so instead of 2 carp rods today we had 1 carp and 1 zander, with the cat and carp rods now out he went to the back of the car and produced a cast net and 1st chuck he had 4 bleak and in the next 45 min we had 4 runs hooking the 4th which came in at just over a pound

And to my surprise he told me that zander were a good eating fish and if we caught one big enough i should try it for dinner in the bar tonight
At 10.15 no 2 cat rod sprang into life and yes this is what we came for and about 12 min or so later i have a smallish cat which came to the scales at 58lb

As Alan was rowing back after putting out the cat bait the zander rod started running i hit it and 30 sec later i have my dinner a 3 1/4 zander we had another couple around the 1lb mark that we returned but nothing bigger although a Romanian guy 40yrds down from us caught a cracker of 10lb
Again today there was very little breeze and it was starting to get very hot,at 12.30 i hooked and landed a nice common that just tipped the scales at 27lb and at 13.20 one of the cat rods sprang over and this ones not hanging around and after 15 min or so i have another cat of 80lb,in fact this was a stroppy little blighter flapping around and even when i went to put my hand in its mouth to get my photo it snapped its jaws on my hand, usually these fish are very docile when on the bank but this one was like a stroppy teenager who had just had 3 cans of redbull

Any way after his release i checked and still had all my fingers and thumbs intact and we were also putting fish on the bank
A short while later i had a common of 26lb and 20min later another of 15lb then Ronny the Dutch guy came up for a chat as he still wasn't catching further down and i think getting quite desperate and i don't think we gave him a great confidence booster by telling him that although not 100lb plus we had banked 2 med cats so far today, and while he was chatting to Alan no 1 cat rod lurched again but this was no cat or if it was it was only a kitten and 10 mins later i get my prize a cracking common of 34 1/2lb and yet another pb

And just as it looks like that's it for the day at 17.30 the cat rod flings its self forward and 15min later i have another medium cat of 73lb

And a nice way to end the day,OK no monsters but i had a steady flow of fish and good company to match,so we pack up and head back for a few beers and of course zander for lunch,Martin asks how i would like it cooked and i go for the battered option and not long after i have my 1st taste of zander and let me tell you folks it was bloody gorgeous,a white flaky meat very cod like and if i ever get the chance again i wouldn't hesitate to order it
Well that's about it for today i hope you guys are enjoying these write ups unfortunately i am back to work tomorrow so day 4 will not appear until very late
tight lines
