selection Hi I am planning in the new river season to have ago at the Catfish that are present in my local river, the cats are very thin on the ground and there is also the problem of the numerous Pike, Zander and Crayfish, can anyone one recommend a bait and rig that will reduce the chance of the Pike, and Zander Darrell

Re: selection you could try using catfish pro - moggie chunks , there super large for sorting out Catfish as the target species __________________ Our Fish of 2009 http://www.youtube.com/user/WaterLic.../0/QGNc8OLZ6V8 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ our fish of 2009

Re: selection Cats eat anything give halibut pellets ago, large chunks of luncheon meat, bollies, whole squid and even liver all catch cats. Simple running ledgers are the easiest rigs

| Re: selection Thanks lads The main problem with soft baits are the ever increacing numbers of Crayfish that are present, unless there is a rig for popping them up I will try Large Halibut pellets as there are some huge Carp present as well and the large pellets should keep the small Bream at bay Does anyone know how long pellets stay hard in the water? | Re: selection The large ones seem to stay hard for ages i used 2 to 3 21mm pellets on a hair have used fox bait poppers to pop up baits |

Re: selection Darrell i have never fished for cats or ever did coarse fishing but seen alot caught, they used leeches and they caught alot of cats on them, i think on memory they used 2 of them. Regarding rig i havnt a baldy. Hope this helps. I watched alot of coarse and cat fishing on tv over many years and most of the top anglers used them. And alot of carp were caught on fake yellow sweatcorn. I have always loved to do coarse fishing but no lakes for it within 100 mile radious. Tight lines darell ![]()

Re: selection thanks lads, I will prob try the pellets, Paul, I have read up on the Leeches as you mention, they work out at £28.00+vat for six Leeches, quite exspensive but probably worth a go if if they only attract the Cats you may not have any lakes near you but you have the stunning coast line and cracking sea fishing Darrell

Re: selection Gee wiz darrell thats steep mate for 6 leeches + vat(i hate that word with a passion). Yes i agree the coastline is beautiful, fishing off the boat is superb, but thats thanks to a 1st class skipper. Shore fishing is mental sep/oct when a specimen can show. I remember one night i was targeting dogs and i started 1 dog then my 1st ever treble dog then 2 dogs then 2 again, but what happened next was breathtaking i caught this huge dog(not a bullhuss) and she had young or sacks, and i just stopped everything and looked at this beautiful fish, she would of smashed the english and irish record, i didnt care about any record, she was put back alive and unharmed, i had 15 dogs that night in 3 hours, il never forget that night darell. Tight lines ![]()

Re: selection what a session and good on you for putting the fish back I normally target Zander and I have had some crackers, especially as it is my first season after them, all have gone back safely and I have not and will not put any pictures in the press as I dont want to have the fish or venue hammered I hope to go out boat fishing in May, christ knows what we are after, I think it is Thornbacks and Dogs, I am looking forward to it even though I am not good on boats and do prefer freshwater fishing Darrell
