Vaal river Cats and Carp

Hi there I'm new to the Vaal River. I like to catch Catfish but don’t catch them every time and If I go fishing for Carp I also do not catch them always so I think It could be me. I only go fishing for one day because my work doesn’t allow me to go fishing too much. I use the sliding rietvlei rig for my carp rod with some super cast mieliebom for my ground bait and I always try to use sweet bait like a white semolina dough or Banjo, Has Been and sometimes FX and Perdeby. I don’t have allot of home made bait because I don’t really know allot. For my Catfish I just use a peace of line with a weight and a grip hook with a peace of chicken liver or intestines. Do anyone have some advise for me please I really like to go fishing but it aint fun if you don’t catch anything. I stay in Stilfontein and go fishing in the Vaal River near wawielpark.

Hi there I always use some bait mesh and chicken liver. A cut a peace of liver that will fit just right in my bait mesh and then take al the ends of the mesh and tie it together so it makes a sort of bag. This way it doesn't fall of the hook. The carp are not that easy. I use a peanut butter bait and sweet white semolina dough: Semolina dough: - by at any grosser store a packet of semolina. I use Snow Flake Semolina. Take quarter tee spoon of sugar and put it in a mixing bowel. Then throw in three table spoons of water (If you can the river or dam water that you’re going to fish). Mix the water and water till the sugar dissolve. Then take a tee spoon full of semolina and start mixing it in with the sugar water. Keep mixing semolina till you can handle the dough with your hands make sure its not do dry. Then put it in a zipper bag and your al set to go fishing. The peanut butter bait I use a peace of brown bread with the sides taken of. I then ad some peanut butter till it feels like dough and press it into a ball when the bread and peanut butter are mixed well. I press a hole in the middle of the bait ball and add a tee spoon of vanilla essence. Mix it well into the ball and your set to go fishing. I hope it helps.
