Love catching wisker fish, they are universal! There is some kind of catfish in nearly every type of water all over the world. Did you hear about someone getting a 600 pound catfish in Vietnam or there abouts. Some group wanted the fish to release it or put it on display in some aquarium, when they got to the village it was gone, they had eaten it. I like them but they don't seem to like me. More than a year ago a buddy at work asked for a small cat to put in his small water feature/pond in his yard to keep the veg down...he jinxed me...haven't caught one single wisker fish since!!!! ![]()

Re: catfishing Omahayank, catfish are definately a blast to catch, how they pull and stay down and go all over the map when they're fighting makes them one of my favorite fish to target. I believe that monster cat was caught in Thailand if memory serves me right. ![]()

Good Luck and have fun. Check out www.okienoodling.com or just look for "noodling" on the web. Its an intense way of fishing for cat. You swim/walk/crawl around in a body of water "feelin' yer way" along the banks with your feet and hands for holes to see if anyone's home. If its a cat, jam your hand in its mouth, make a fist and pull it out...simple!! If its not a cat...well, you see the attraction. Let the fun begin. Its only legal in 2 states, Oklahoma is one of them, don't remember the other. This year Missouri tried a limited season on maybe 4 rivers, its over already. I've never tried it (don't intend to either). A good friend of mine, with family in Missouri, says he went as a kid. He and his brothers were "stationed" in front of promising holes to keep whatever in till someone could check it out. Says that was the last time he went. Don't know exactly how he means that. ![]()

Re: catfishing Never tried noodling, don't intend to either. It is interesting though, but you'll never catch me doing that. Too many things can go wrong if you ask me, too many ways to lose one of your digits. I'll be sticking to rod and reel ![]()

Re: catfishing I love catfishing! Me and the ol' Lady like to go out at dusk with a lantern and fish all night! We take a few different rods. Some we rig up and let drift with a lighted bobber and the others we use to cast nightcrawlers right off the bank. In my experience the catfish will come up to the edge of the shallows where the sun has warmed the rocks to feed and WHAMO!... Fish on! hehe, I like to use a variety of baits usually fresh livers have the best effect (for me) some people swear by half-rotted stinkin' smelly ol' baits but, I cant stomache it myself! Like in Fly-Fishing try to use baits that would be available in your location and time of year. Dont throw a half can of corn out in the area you plan to fish. This can ruin the fishing for weeks or bring in big carp that will effectively drive of the catfish plus, it may be illegal depending where you live. I just mensioned this because I run into "corn littered banks" along the local river and it: makes me , spoils the fishing and looks terrible! Uninformed kids usually do this in an effort to chum.
