Re: makin carp rigs Hi mate I am not into fishing for big Carp but there are plenty on this forum who are, check out the thread that Richard (Fishing Forum Admin) has done on Chod Carp rigs, it is in the Carp rig section, this rig would be ideal for you, there are plenty other other rigs described in that section as well good luck Darrell

Re: makin carp rigs I would use a Zig rig what is a long hook link. with no shot to pull down the pop-up you can make the link as long as u want. Just use a stiff link. Also make sure your hooklink is light enough to outstand the pop up tht ur using. Jake

Re: makin carp rigs so not to start a new thread i thought i would ask this question here im looking at using flurocarbon more and would like to use it for my hook lengths but cant get to grips with its stiffness and the loops on the hair just doesnt seem right to me... i assume though there is nothing to stop me using a thin mono as the hair..... 2lb or 4lb then just tying the hook direct to the flurocarbon? __________________ fishing for fish is not as simple as you may think!

Re: makin carp rigs Personally mate you don't need to use all the bollocks gear , bog standard mono hook link off the lead at the lengh you require , if your having trouble casting due to the length of the hook link have a look here ZIGS for problems with floro , use a D rig knotless knot , do not make a loop for the boilie just leave one length thread on a small o ring , then take the tail end through the eye , blob the end with a lighter , so it does not come back through the eye , the tie your bolie on with floss Last edited by NICK R; 05-23-2010 at 05:27 PM.

Re: makin carp rigs see now this is where it stands out to me that carp can see the hook...and this is the part that is doing my confidence right in lol i did do alot of mullet fishing...and i found that mullet are not really that hard to catch providing they cant see the mainline and hook....and if you actually stand bait an area and watch that area 3 or 4 mullet can clear a baited area of 2 loaves of bread in about 15 mins..... you stick a waggler over the top with 8lb mainline and size 6 hook and they become extremely picky! scale it all down .. 4lb mainline size 12 hook and they will pick it up every time providing the hook is fully hidden within the bread.. you will even watch a fish swim to the bait and shy away..... bring your line in and the point of the hook is just showing and that is enough to spook the fish... so i cannot get my head around the fact that a big wary carp cannot see that hook....yeah on a bottom bait it maybe disguised somewhat.....but on a popped up D rig ect the fish must be able to see it.....now im sure you can hide a hook within a boilie .. you would never get it too pull free and hook the fish when you strike though and so im still not sure the best way for me to approach it to try and prove the theory that these fish eat alot but the anglers dont get bites because the fish can see the line and/or the hook we adapted a way of float fishing for the mullet here with a driftbeater style float the float was shotted so it stood up then a small amount of leadcore inner was wrapped around the hook and a small amount of line above the hook so it took the float down to the tip..... as i say with the hook hidden correctly and a decent line (i found stren fluro blue was the best its big in america apparantly and i use it for my carp surface fishing) the float hardly sits still with the way the mullet are mouthing at the bread constantly! maybe i just need to forget what i learnt with mullet and follow the carpers way but it just doesnt seem right to me at the moment! ive thought about hiding hooks in sweetcorn kernels ect so the hook could pull from the bait when you strike!....it would also mean you couldnt fish sensitive enough on a bite alarm and may have to watch a float ![]() __________________ fishing for fish is not as simple as you may think!
