| Re: Can anyone tell me whats the best setup to catch Carp? Now there’s a question. Everyone has their favorite ways of catching carp. The best tip I can give is keep it simple don't over complicate things. There are so many answers to this question. and so many extra questions what type of water are you fishing how big are the carp, what kit do you have, all these question need to be asked as well. 1st of all roughly what type of kit do you own and where do you fish for the Carp i.e Lake, river etc and what is the avarage size of the fish? | Re: Can anyone tell me whats the best setup to catch Carp? I'm also quite new to fishing (around 6 months). I use to 2 basic rigs depending on whether i'm fishing on the bottom or off the surface. If you see the fish swimming and taking bait off the surface you may want to try a floating dog biscuit on a hair-rig. I used to use a bubble float with this method but the fish where I fish are very easily spooked so I tried just free-lining the dog biscuits (no float) and I catch loads of carp. Just watch the dog biscuit to be taken then when you see your line tighten on the surface you should strike, but more often than not they self-hook. Most dog biscuits (chum mixers) are quite hard right out the box so you may need to soak them overnight and they go quite spongy an float. My second basic rig for fishing on the bottom is again a hair-rig, I use a size 10 hook for fish that size. With it I use a Waggler float, Lead, Lead-clip and tail rubber. If you look at the 'Korda' stuff there really good, you can actually just buy ready made hair-rigs which I find quite handy. The braid on the korda hair-rig also sits on the bottom well. I use Spicy prawn and sweet chill boilies. If you use a waggler float with this method you may want to plumb the depth of water with either a plummit tool, or just use trail and error to adjust the split-shots on the float. Hope this helps, like I say i'm also new to fishing but these methods catch me alot of fish. Wes. |

| Re: Can anyone tell me whats the best setup to catch Carp? Hi mate hundreds of different rigs out there for you to try. Have a look at some of the big tackle companies web sites they will have rig section, obviously trying to flog there gear but will give you a good idea what you can make up. also have a look on You tube lots of vids showing you step by step. and finally its what you can tie! if you have fingers like chipolatas tying some of the more complicated rigs could be an issue. A rule I always try and follow is less knots means less possible breaking points. good luck |
