Re: Tackle shops vs Ebay

If buying a critical item on Ebay it is best to make sure you look for a registered business seller in the UK. That way you have the same rights as if you bought it in a store. Also, even if they say they are not responsible for goods once they have been posted, this is not true. Legally the goods still belong to them until you have taken delivery.

I love tackle shops, but they range from expensive to outrageous in this part of the world. However, they are generally a great source of valuable local knowledge. As such I always try and spend a couple of quid at least when I visit one.

Devon, Cornwall and I believe South Wales also has a gem when it comes to cut price tackle, Trago Mills has a huge sporting division with massive buying power. More often than not I can find things there 50%+ lower than the stores and even 10-20% below Ebay prices.

They have loads of other attractions both retail and recreational, so that makes for the perfect disguise for your tackle sortie, it's a family day out ;0)

Re: Tackle shops vs Ebay

I think its always best just to shop around and compare first, I was about to get some bulk halibut pellets from ebay but then found 3kg buckets buy one get one free for a tenner at chapmans in scunny !! Bargain. Some items on ebay are a bargain until you look at the postage prices which can be more than the item itself.

Re: Tackle shops vs Ebay

Exeter angling have got a price match policy. Went in there recently and had a princeton tec lamp, a waterproof smock and a new tripod and they match the best price I could find on each one. Blinding service! Also I haven't got the time nor the inclination to dig worms on a regular basis, so gotta be tackle shop more often than not.

Re: Tackle shops vs Ebay

tackle shops are great because you can have a good look at what your buying its a shame they are dying out. The day you can order maggots on ebay will be there last nail in the coffin. I buy stuff from ebay most of its been ok. I bought a load of sea rigs recently cost 81 pence each. If the tackle shop could do that price this thread would never have been started!

Re: Tackle shops vs Ebay

To be honest I do use ebay and other online stores because im always skint. Sometimes I will even go to a tackle shop, look at what i want and how good it is, then buy it online coz you will always get a better deal regardless of places saying they will price match.

Re: Tackle shops vs Ebay

I use both really, I do try look for bargains mostly, but my local tackle shop always has bits missing which can get annoying. ebay is good for little offers. but maybe the major brands should just sell there products cheaper and every1s a winner

Re: Tackle shops vs Ebay

For the banter, bait, and bits n bobs it has got to be the tackle shop every time. Spensive stuff...You have got to shop around in todays world of being brassic most of the time. Hooks flea bay and tie me own weight wires the same. I will even go as far as making floats.
