Thumbs up Bluewater, the view from Greenhearts bivvy...

Well, what can I say thats not already been said by my fellow members of the France 2008 expeditionary force? Bluewater Lake's a fantistic venue, top quality fish & Jim & Jan, the owners were great hosts. Steve & I had opted to fish the deeper end of the lake, where fish were fewer in number, but Jim had told us the fish at this end were generally larger. I had chosen the furthest swim from the lodge, but this was more than made up for by the views.
Although the bites were not so frequent as the shallow end of the lake, there was plenty to watch in the form of the local widl life. During the week, I was privilaged to see Kingfishers, Long tailed titts, an Osprey, a Peregrine Falcon, a Coypu, various Bats & insects such as Dragon flys, large edible snails & Hornets in profusion. I also spotted a very large striped black & yellow spider, the likes of which i'd never seen in the UK. I was also entertained by several baby Pike & large Perch chasing smallfry in the margins.
Evening entertainment consisted of taking pot-shots at the local Rat population with my bait catapult.....
I'd baited my swim with a strong smelling loosefeed consisting of pellet, tuna flakes, sweetcorn & Squid & mussel glug & cast out three rods. One baited with sweetcorn (two real grains & one pop-up rubber one), one with a Pineapple pop-up boilie & one with a Matrix fishmeal boilie.
My first run of the week came on the sweetcorn & resulted in this nice 23lb Mirror....
The next Carp was a new PB 32lb Mirror taken on the Pineapple pop-up
And the last Carp was a 20lb fish that took a Matrix Boilie....

My best fish of the week & also another PB was a 42lb Catfish that made 3 powerful runs the full width of the lake before Dave (Pingu) landed it for me. We had problems getting it in my 42" net so Dave had to don a kevlar glove & pull it in by it's lower jaw. The Cat responded to this by doing the most foul smelling poo all over the un-hooking mat.
highlights of the week were finally meeting Fishy Paul, Devon Dave & Carper Chris.
Hearing Bananna Steve complain that he'd not had a bite for 70 hours & saying that he'd be happy with a bite, let alone a fish, then watching him get a screaming run two minutes later which he promptly missed.... Never mind mate, you got your bite.
The week was also livened up with a very loud & spectacular thunderstorm. Once i'd established that my Bivvy was waterproof, I quite enjoyed it.
All in all a great week with excellent company, banter & socialising.....
Definately looking foward to going again & also to sampling some more of the excellent French Cider

Nice one Ian, tis is the first time I get to see you catch. Beautiful looking carp........and the catfish, well, maybe his mum hasn't potty trained him yet

Hope you managed to get the smell out of the unhooking matt.

Looks a lovely swim to spend a week, Ian. Glad you had some fish too.
