My trip to La Beausoleil last week

Well this was certainly a bit different to the norm - had booked the lake and house but had 2 family members pull out, and well theres not enough shops there for the missus so ended up going on my own - as i arrived i was greeted by the sight of about 8 acre grounds with a stunning tree lined 4 acre lake. First impressions of the accomodation were good - make a nice break during the day to get away from the fishing.

The lake has an island with a triple swim facing it giving you access to everywhere on the lake except the back of the island - plan was to fish nights from the swim and stalk behind the island during the daytime. First night passed by quietly but by the next night i had got a few spots going mainly to far margins - this lake is chod city with only a few firmer areas - first fish came on the 2nd night, a 14lb10 sturgeon which was initially great fun as id never hooked one before - until it tail walked about 4 times through 2 other lines, these fish cause so much disturbance, especially when youve been tiptoing around all night being quiet.

The weather was horrendous - one minute blistering heat the next minute very cool with heavy showers, 2nd night at dusk had a 24lb 10 mirror about 10 seconds after the bait hit the water, had a monumental scrap as it kept tryin to dart through a footbridge on the back of the island, had an attitude on the bank as well, tried my besdt for a photo but my camera has a 10 sec delay, with no remote, so you have to press the button then you got 10 secs to pick the fish up - i took a photo of the fish not flapping but this one seems more apt !!

Then the biggest thunderstorm came over i have ever experienced - and with no rods in the water and it being pitch black, i legged it up to the house, it went on until 3am (4 hrs), and with no curtains in the house, it was like something out of amytiville horror, i made it bvack down at 6am and put the rods in, but no action.

Then the next night it kicked off, had 7 fish out, 5 carp and 2 sturgeon, biggest 27lb, literally one after the other, at dawn i was happy as larry, sat in me chair, grinning, with a bottle of speckled hen on the go

Best fun during the daytime was stalking by the footbridge on the float, id bait up with maize about 11am, go off and get baguettes then dangle a float late afternoon. This lil 13lb mirror was so much fun on my 9ft stalker rod.

Rest of the week weather continued to be crap - lost 1 more night due to a storm, i fished through it, but didnt have a bleep, killed the fishing rest of the week, i ended up with 15 fish, 9 carp and 6 sturgeon, lovely venue, too many sturgeon for my own tastes though. Im extremely happy that i only lost 2 fish all week, one of which went round a corner and snagged me up (couldnt avoid) and only 1 hookpull out of 15 fish. At Blavet i lost 4 fish banked 2 !!

Le queroy next year, meunier 09

Some more venue pics

Re: My trip to La Beausoleil last week

Cheers Paul, the average size was a bit lower than i was led to believe (doubles), however im pretty sure the weird weather put the bigger fish off feeding, except those bloomin sturgoen - every time i got a spot going they would come in, eat everything and spook the swim with their tailwalking ... No mention of sturgeon on their website ..

Re: My trip to La Beausoleil last week

Thanks guys

Lee Miller has a number of top venues - www.millerscarpandcats.com all of which you hire the whole lake and get good accomodation ... for a group of lads somewhere like Meunier (was on sky on carp crew), le mans, fortinieres would be superb. Biggest cat in le Mans is 179lb !

Im booked on Meunier, booked last year, earliest date i could get ? June 2009 !

Beausoleil is more of an english estate lake type place, very silty, ive got to say though didnt enjoy fishing on my own too much .. Very eerie I had speckled hen to keep my company though
