| Blue Water Lakes - how are we all getting there? I was speaking to Steve yesterday and he was talking about travel to the lakes. I have had a look on auto route and it seems to be 250 miles from Calais.which is about a 4 hour run as it is all motorway near enough. Assuming we want to arrive around lunch time/ early afternoon, giving us time to bivvy up and get settled for the first night, then getting into france for 10am is more than early enough, I plan on crossing on the tunnel again, might be a few quid dearer but times are almost certain and it is a shorter crossing. With loading and 35minute crossing time allow an hour for the crossing and an hour for the dime difference then I need to be at the chunnel for 8 am, which means leaving home at 5 am for me. So that is my rough plan, anyone who want to travel "in convoy" post up here and we will sort a more definite plan. I seem to remember that Pingu was thinking of sailing from Plymouth, this gives you about a 7 hour drive across france , skirting around Paris. Alternatively, we could form a convoy as we drive across country, Pingu travels the A303 towards Dover, Greenheart and Steve could meet Pingu and Devondave and Twiddler and me in the Countess services on the A303 just passed Stonehenge for breakfast ( this is about a 2 1/2 hour run from exmouth, and 45 minutes from Warminster) and then we could drive together to kent and meet Rob M and Fishypaul at the tunnel terminal for 8 am. Or all the dover/calais travellers could meet at city europe, in Calais at 10 am and then travel down to the lake en masse, this way you can cross the channel anyway you prefer, but if the two Dave's cross from Plymouth it is a long old haul across France alone. Have a think about it and let me know if you have any preferences. I had not planned on organising the crossings so that we could be a bit more flexible in travel arrangements, but I am more than happy to make the journey a group event too if that is what you all want. | Re: Blue Water Lakes - how are we all getting there? i would rather go by ferry to be honest,it costs me nothing ,travelling in convoy was fun this year and in my opinion it made a long journey more bearable, i think i would prefer to get to the lake as early as possible, the group who took over from us at paradise got to the lake before we left and consequently had the whole day to sort themselves out, that is something i would like to do if possible |

| Re: Blue Water Lakes - how are we all getting there? a night ferry crossing would be fine, get an early start on the morning and get there in plenty of time would do, I was just a bit concerned that it takes 2 days travelling with not much sleep in between. Last time we all met at Paul's and did not have much sleep, which makes it hard work for the driver. Paul, can you give us some idea of the ferry times/costs for us people who have to pay and we can give that some thought I am happy to travel to the port friday night, sleep on the ferry on a night crossing and zoom down to the lake in the morning. __________________ Life is brief and fragile. | Re: Blue Water Lakes - how are we all getting there? Like Paul, i would rather travell over night, and arrive nice and early on the Saturday Morning. It would be nice to travell in convoy. __________________ "The muscles of 20 men, and the brains of 20 mussels", |

| Re: Blue Water Lakes - how are we all getting there? the ferry seems to be £50 each way ( cheaper if we do silly times of night), trip is 2.5 hours.( about £60/£90 cheaper than euro tunnel) not much sleeping time as an overnighter, but still could be done if we are happy to drive through the night and get an early start on the lake. __________________ Life is brief and fragile. | Re: Blue Water Lakes - how are we all getting there? i would like to get to the lake about 9 or 10 in the morning, maybe get some info from the group packing up and then have bags of time to look round, set up and familiarize myself with the surroundings so that i can settle in nicely before the first night |
