unhooking mats and there progress

i just be given yet another unhooking mat this time its from jrc . the high care xl mat 420D have to say i,m very impressed with it .
its that big i could buy some oars and use it as a rowing boat
although the carp i catch will get lost in here me thinks (but carp care is important )

mats are really an important part of our fishing and i use mats for every species from a small mats for my zedding to this beast of a mat for my carping
mats have come along way from the first small wafer thin under size mats that used to get used by all to carp craddles like the one above i suppose they were initially made to do away with things like hessian sacks which were probably used before you could buy a proper mat .
incidently who made the first commercial unhooking mat ?? does any one know ?
alot of fisheries especially foreign fishery are now even supplying mats for there customers to use i suspect there are two reasons for this firstly safety of there own stock with angler probably bringing inadequate sized mats and to keep diseases at bay as well . (now i will not need to take my mat i get more bait in the car )
does any one think mats could be improved on any more ??
what mats does you use ??

its carrying the thing to the swim thats the problem, perhaps if they put wheels on it and it can double up as a barrow

Re: unhooking mats and there progress

Hi Kev
By the looks of your new mat it doen,t look like the design of mats can progress much further other than a built in sprinkler system to keep the fish wet maybe that idea might catch on .
Fish care is paramount and i too use a mat for any type of fishing that i do,
i own 3 different types including an Aqua mega mat which is massive but not practical to carry around so stays in my boat for use on my Bream water,a chub mat which is big enough for most venues and is practical to carry around and a small mat for Perch fishing.

Re: unhooking mats and there progress

thats a good idea all you need is a converted foot pump attached to a long enough pipe that goes into the lake and then llike a shower head over the unhooking mat and hey presto
no more buckets of water :) :) :)
