Just back from Canada

My son and I just got back from a week on the St Lawrence in Canada, so as promised here's a report and a couple of piccies.

I was there about 5 years ago pretty late in the season (October) and we did better this time than then but still not as good as I'd anticipated - nobody was getting too much so it wasn't my ability at fault! Bottom line is if you're going there the bagging up period is the last two weeks in May and all of June; this is when the fish come into the bays to feed up and spawn.

We stayed at the Long Sault motel (aka the Canadian Carp Club) - its run by an English couple(Jeff and Marian) and this was their first season in charge - Jeff is a partner in a tackle business in the UK so there is a well stocked shop on the site, and the room was clean and comfortable, with nothing too much trouble. They have a web site which explains all and I would recommend it to anyone.

We averaged about 6 fish a day each, mostly doubles and only had 5 under 10 pounds. Here's a 15 pounder I caught the first day

This one is a double my 16 year old son caught

Over the week we had 7 fish over 20 pounds - two weighed in at 29 lbs but no matter how I juggled the scales I couldn't quite make them go to thirty!
This is one of the 29's:

I'd go back again but definitely in the May/June period which wasn't possible this year down to GCSE's.
