Carp Scouting mission

Well last night I wanted to check out a water that I know hold some nice carp although they are few and far between but fight like hell if you get one.

Went down at 7.30pm with my binocs and a rod to have a little play surface fishing whilst I sat there watching the water

Tried Tut Frut and bread but to be honest I was more interested in walking and watching.

Did see a few carp groups but these were one big she carp followed by upto 5 small man carp. THey were not interested as they were in spawn mode.

But what has got my back up is what they have done to the lake

Basics are its a weedy water and in full summer there are only a few peg that you can fish unless you drag one out. This was tops as the fish had loads of cover and food .

So what have they done --- Treated the weed / lillies and put grass carp in and nothing else. So now this lovely lake is like a desert and talking to the few anglers the fishing has plumeted over the last 12 months.

Why do clubs do this , I understand treating or grass carping but both ??

If they want to open the lake up then do one of them and add some more fish

I will give it a go in the next few weeks but know have to find another wild lake to fish

Re: Carp Scouting mission

it a shame when they spoil wildnesses like that
i have a water like that that i cannot fish till next week (june 16th)
i,m sure they think it makes it easier to catch by treating the weed ,when they get hooked up they do not get snag in the weed a damage the fish strange mentallity really just what will happen now it will change the wholwe eco system and the fish now have to adjust to the new conditiomns which will make the fishing slower and i bet the water is chrystal clear aswell ,
oh sorry to here your wild water has been spoiled hope you find another one richard

kevin

ps : when i get my lake richard you can come down and fish it as it will be a wild water with no desinated swims and weed and lilly everywhere with a island in the middle and over hanging willows and bushes all around and bull rushes and sedges lined around it and all big carp in it and a head of zander too! and invite only

Re: Carp Scouting mission

do a search on eutrophication
its a process where nirtates from fertalisers get washed into water ways like lakes
this causes the plant life to go into over drive and grow like made, this then cuts out sun light for plants and animals under the top layer which then die
at this point decomposers like tubiflex worms decompose all the dead organic matter which reales's huge amounts of carbon dioxide which in turn kills the decomposers which leaves the waterway life lessand oxygen less apart from the plants on the top
its tricky and expencive to fix once it reach's that stage so it is better to stop it befor then
by the sounds of things your lake might have been in the early stages and the club did something about it
either that or there complet muppets and felt like ruining a lake
hope this helps

Re: Carp Scouting mission

Hope you're able to find another nice lake soon mate. It's such a shame when they ruin waters.
