| Re: What depth to fish 4 carp what depth to fish for carp hhhhmmmm a good question and virtually impossible to answer correctly or wrongly to come to that.in the summer you willfind carp consistenly basking and feeding on the surface during the day and as temperture drop a little they will feed more confidently on the bottom but on some lakes can be heard slurping on the surface during the night . (this time of year normally is easier to catch them ) now in the winter month is when you should really should be asking this question as lakes cool down and the carp will be found mostly in the warmest parts of the lake and this can be any where from the shallows to the deep water also this will depend on alot of variables though ei amout of sun light on the water on any particle spot also this will be important to you from another point of view as the sun hits and pentrate the water at what depth will you find them in it could be an inch of the bottom to 10ft up (good ploy is to use a zig rig to search the layers )also the wind direction across a lake will determine where they will be on a lake at any time but again this will change according to the direction the wind is coming from as a colder wind will chill the layers and the carp will be deeper . you heard the saying :follow the wind this is true on a new wind but after a couple of days this will no longer apply as much, then after these you have to take into account the barometer readings aswell and then the moon phases and by this point your head will be spinning as it soooo complex .so if i was you i would follow the following tips follow the wind watch to see where they are jumping /or where you can see them feature find your swim for prominent features and fish on them keep it simple ask others on the water you are fishing what they,ve seen and whats the going bait (in other words do your home work ) these above simple tips will hold you in good stead on most waters but i have to say what a good question tightlines kevin ![]() |
