hooklengths i am making up a few hooklengths while on here (and supping a beer or to ),i started thinking, what do you consider to be the best length,i usually tie mine about 12 inches, but is there anything to be gained by using longer or shorter,i use braid and flourocarbon ,depends what mood i'm in.

Re: hooklengths this time of year i will tye mine up on either a braid or flouro and i normaly will make them between 5 inches to 7 inches as i feel this is about right but i say that its right for the places i fish it might be different where you are but i find the longer rigs give the carp a chance to get away and throw the hook example : in winter i will fish rigs 3 inches as i do not want the carp moving very far with out giving me an indication . if i was you i would make em between 6in and 9 in paul then tweek them as you either get no response or you do . just a tip if drinking beer while making rigs double check you havew put a hook on the rig kevv

Re: hooklengths For me, depends on the venue mate. With a lakebed with lots of silt, I make them 15"+ to allow a decent presentation, usually with a snowman set-up to clear the bottom. But on average mine are around 8" long Rob

Re: hooklengths I tie mine on the bank and to a lenght that is required to handle the situation I am in. Solid PVA bags short braider hooklengths 2"-4" long. Weedy venues I may tine a hook lenght 4' long. Over gravel semi clear spots well anything 4"-10" long. material I try a use a material that is easy to tie, Reliable(ie it doesnt become unravelled) and it is as close a match to the lake bed as possible. Flouro gets used with a soft braided hair to give the bait as much free natural movement as possible. I have for a while been using a flouro rig tied like this ![]() To great effect
