Question Catching carp of the surface

Catching carp of the surface - Well the only type of carp fishing Ive done ove the last few years for carp is all surface work.

My question is whats the best method :- Using a controler float or a running lead with a long trace.

The reason for this question is I find it can be a pain using athe float method if there is a bit of surface movement on the lake.

I love using this little rig for carp of the surface as when you see the big lips come up and suck your bait , it does halve make your heart jump

This is my rig I use | Click Here |

So any ideas or tips guys - good boiles / rigs or areas to look at on a lake where this method works best

Re: Catching carp of the surface

when i surface fish firstly i get four strands of 2lb line to tye my rig up the reason i use 2lb line is it spreads like a multi strand and does not break show so much on the surface layer of the water but its important to have the exactly the same length or you will not the desired strength . now if i get surface moveemnt caused by wind if its not a strong breeze i change my hook on the rig to a penatrator hook which has a solid ring through the eye this now allow movement to occur and minimises the movement on the lines because it can pivot on the ring .
alos if the wind get up a bit more and i,m being moved out of position then i will change to a zig rig set up on a running lead set up so i can cast it into the position and then allow the bait to rise to the surface of the lead also this is a versatile set up as you can set it at what ever depth you want so you do not have to fish on the surface this is a real devastiting method more in the winter as carp will be in the warmer layers .
there are plenty of tweeks and rigs changes that can be applied to surface fishing to fool the most wariest of carp but these ones above have accounted for some good catches for me

hope this helps richard i would do you a diagram but i,m crap at drawing

Re: Catching carp of the surface

the best part of surface fishing and every one will agree is the stalking aspect to do this really well a good pair of polarised glasses are reiquired as to where to fish for them this is where the stalking come into its own and the carp could be any where s
every lake has different bank side vegitation which changes the amount of light into the lake and this will determine where the carp will go . cause if early season you have high tree the lake will take longer to warm up than a lake that has not so these have to be taken into consideration so the area,s you would firstly be looking at is where the sun firstly hits the lake and where the sun is on it for the longest =period of time now i also find that evening carp charactisticly will feed into the setting sun and most lake the west bank also is worth some investigations .
again this is not a writen rule this is my own perceptions and opinion
