Here comes the snow

I'm off Fishing on Friday on Milo at Cudmore - planned it for weeks!!

Absolutely gutted that sleet snow has been forcast.

Any advice for me with regards to bait and tactics. I was planing the method with corn or boilie, should i be staying at home.

Re: Here comes the snow

if i was you i would keep to small baits do not bait up as this might work again you .take some maggots and use little pva bags and hair rig maggot i prefer red maggots as these look similar to blood worm you should not get bothered by small fish as these do seem to shy away from a bunch of hair rigged maggots and good luck and will will wait for a cracking report ok

Re: Here comes the snow

yes totally agree with you baitmaster(we must get together one day we seem to think along the same lines every time ! )
don't over do the amount of loose feed or the size of bait, one small single bait or similar often works in the cold weather.

Re: Here comes the snow

Well i went arrived at 6.30am. Didn't seem that cold in the morning but when i arrived half the lake was covered in ice. Found a nice little spot completely ice free with an island 20 meters out.

Fished the method on plastic sweetcorn. Based on the over feeding theory this was probably a bad idea but carried it on all day with no bites.

Set up a float rod as well and tried every bait possible, didn't have one single bite. I then startedfishing a feeder on a halibut pellet with smaller pellets as feed. Again probably to much feed but after 4 hours of no bites my rod suddenly flew off to the left.

Your'll never guess what was on the end!!!! I was fishing quite tight to the island and it must have been a little shallower that i thought. The ducks had been a menace all day with our lose feed but this was a total shock when i hooked one, he had managed to hook his back end and had line all around his beak. My mate and me tried to pull it in but it kept flying off. Eventually it snapped the line and got free. It was quite a scarey experience, for me and the duck but maybe that will teach it in the future to keep away from our feed.

In the end i drew a blank and so did my mate, if he had caught i could have been forced to pack in fishing completely. Having spoke to some of my mates who went the week before, at a different lake, they all informed me they drew blanks.

I'll know for next time to turn stright back around on an icey lake, but any day's fishing catch or not is a good day out!!!
