Fresh or washed out baits?

Over the past month or 2 I've been reading a lot about whether it's worth changing hook baits (boilies), especially when fishing over bait you've spodded in a few hours before.

The thinking behind this is that if you've spodded/baited up an area for a few hours, the baits will soon wash out and lose their flavours/colours etc.. so when you put a fresh hookbait over the top, carp get the idea it's new and will be attatched to a hook (supposedly)

A few weeks ago I was speaking to a mate who's nan owns a fishery and he was saying a lot of the big fish coming out lately had been on washed out baits.

I personally agree with a lot of what is being said that the carp are wary. Boilies aren't really gonna break down for a while, so carp will munch on them knowing there's not a hook attatched, as most anglers will re-bait every cast, and throw in the old bait.

I'm now wondering whether to use this on Mario's Lake (Specimen) as I'd imagine a lot of anglers throw in washed out baits, so I may try it.

Does anyone else have any idea's on this?

I'm talking about baits that have been in the water a day or 2

Re: Fresh or washed out baits?

thats an intresing idea and would be worth a go was just wandering would you leave the boilies in the water and then straight onto the hook or would you air them out again before using

Just my 2 cents, When I get bluegills hitting on pieces of nightcrawler I always try to save the worm, the more chewed-up and washed out it gets the more they seem to hit it.
