I doubt if you would mistake a Crucian Carp for a Roach.

Heres a small Crucian Carp that I caught from a small club lake recently of around 12oz.

Heres a near 2lb Roach that I caught from a local stream. So you can see they are very different.

NB. A member of of one of the clubs I belong to recently caught a new record Crucian of 4lb 10oz from a local gravel pit. (Clear photos, Scale checks and everything else was done correctly and they are just waiting for acceptance).
The same ancient gravel pit also contains one of the largest (if not the largest) british 'leather' Carp (called 'Toadless').

I havent used one of these but I had a quick look at the reel in question on another web site < Cormoran Sinus BR 3PI >
and it appears fine for Carp fishing as long as the fish in your lake don't go too much above the 18 to 20lb mark, especially if you need to fish at range and/or it is very snaggy; where you need to use more or heavier line.

Out of the three models I would choose the 4000 model as the other models look a little small and might limit the amount of heavier line you can load onto your reel.

The recomended lines for the Cormoran Sinus BR 3Pi models are:

Model 3000: 170mtrs of 0.22mm line (approx 5 or 6lb line)
Model 3500: 170mtrs of 0.25mm line (approx 8lb line)
Model 4000: 195mtrs of 0.28m line (approx 9 to 10lb line)

For most of my Carp fishing I use lines from around 8lb up to around 14lb (usually 10lb) depending on the size of carp and nature of the water I am fishing and the rod I am using.

Getting back to this Post; Great info Norfolkboy it will help a lot of anglers new to Carp fishing.

Since the 4lb 10oz Crucian was caught from one of our pits; the Cameras were on hand to record the capture of a larger potential British record crucian carp from Gold Valley Lakes,

Tony Charman caught the 5lb 3oz 8dr specimen, which is being submitted as a record claim.

Re: The Carp!

Hi, Norfolkboy, I am a new member to this site, and would just like to congratulate you on a very informative post which I am sure is appreciated by other members! I would just like to clarify a few points, not all the carp you have named are actually 'CARP'

The King Carp.
is ‘Cyprinus Carpio’ which include, common, mirror (fully scaled, linear and scatter scale) and leather, and are all Cyprinid’s.

The Crucian Carp. (a different family)
is ‘Carassius Carassius’

The Grass Carp. (a different family)
is ‘Ctenopharyngodon idellus Valenciennes’

I hope this is helpfull!
