Re: The Carp! Yep, my ghost carp is starting to outgrow my pond too. Might have to dig a larger one as i'm getting quite fond of him. Almost got him eating out of my hand now. __________________ "The fish and I were both stunned and disbelieving to find ourselves connected by a line." William Humphrey "

Re: The Carp! Nice info . Thanks for sharing it with us . Grass carp (not a true carp) are the most horrific fish to control on the bank , they go balistic . Crucian Carp (not a true carp) my favorite fish to fish for when i want a chill day .Stunning fish

Re: The Carp! First off, nice informative posting. ![]() In most areas of the States, the Common Carp is most common (!) while mirrors are few and far between. I understand that a ghost carp is a cross between a common and a koi? Don't know if its true, though. ![]() Also, as was mentioned by Nick, a 'grass carp' is actually not a carp at all, but a white amur. They are 'cousins' so to speak, but not carp. Both are in the minnow family. Around here we have buffalo (fish) that look a lot like a carp, but with deeper body and no barbels. Some call them buffalo carp, but they are actually a member of the sucker family. I've seen commons that vary in color from silvery to deep brown/green; they seem to be darker in clearer, northern waters and lighter in siltier souther waters. So, the aforementioned green fish could have been a carp as well as a tench. __________________ Brian - dedicated multi-species angler "there are no trash fish - just trash attitudes"
