where to fish for big carp

Looking to start proper carp fishing as i have been doing coarse and pole recently, going to buy a single carp rod (wynchwood signature and signature) reel, I have a baisic knowledge of rigs etc.
Just trying to find a place with decent sized fish in the stroud area (20 mile raduis)
does anyone have any idea where i could try ?

Smile Re: where to fish for big carp

I used to but this is a very used to....talking about 10 years + ago fish a place called Stoutshill just outside Uley nr Dursley. These carp didn't go huge maybe 10lb+ but great fun. I think they may have had a blue/green algae problem after I left though so you'll have to find out about it as the guy used to come round & collect day tickets. Also there's a waiting list but don't you have Woodchester park not far from you? Also Stonehouse canal used to have some nice carp/tench in don't know who owned that though? Also there's a lake in Ryeford not far from the canal. If you have transport then maybe you want to travel further afield we used to fish Longleat & Whelford pools but depends how far you want to travel & what size fish your after.

Rob.
