Carp Rods.

In the days of big Pit Carp Rods, whats the "state of the Art" rod nowadays ?

Personelly, I dont use or own anything like Sergi Bubka's Pole Vaulting Pole.
Much prefer summat like a nice 11ft 1.75 TC through action.
Or in Glass, if you like, A Bruce and Walker 10ft Mk.4g. Beautiful !

Ripple.

PS. then again, I dont chuck to the Horizon.

Re: Carp Rods.

My favourite Carp rod is an old 2lb tc Diawa Powermesh Carp rod which is probably around 15 years old (or more). It has a lovely action and can control any Carp that I am likely to catch and is not too strong for use when Barbeling on a large river.

I also have a 10ft B.James & Son Split cane Richard Walker MKIV Carp rod which is starting to look a bit tatty which I used to use, but it has stayed on the wall with its varnish flaking off for many years.
I used to use this rod when I caught my first Barbel on the river Kennet way back in the 70’s.
It has a test curve of around 1.5lb I think, and if it was man enough for Walker to catch his record Carp on from Redmire and it was man enough for Yates to catch his 51lb monster carp on then it was man enough for my more modest Carp back in the 70’s.

I don’t fish large waters these days so I don’t need Big Pit reels and extreme range Carp rods and the heaviest test curve Carp rod that I own is an old 2.5lb tc Rob Maylin carp rod.

If I were to buy a couple of carp rods today then I would probably buy myself a couple of 2.5lb Greys Prodigies which I like the look of and which are not too expensive compared to some; they may not be the best but I like them; and I certainly wouldn’t buy stiff 3lb to 3.5lb test curve rods like a lot of Carp anglers do these days as they are a bit too extreme for what I would ever need even if I was lucky enough to hook ‘Toadless’ who swims in one of our club pits.

Re: Carp Rods.

On a visit to a tackle sale in Redditch last year I had a good look at Dick's mk. 4 currently owned by Chris Ball.
Still looks as if it "could do the business" nowadays !

I would love to own that rod, but it would be a waste if someone like me owned it;
Far better for Dick's Carp rod to be on show somewhere so that everyone can see it.
