Newbie to Carp Fishing

Hi All,
I am new to the site and relatively new to Carp Fishing in general. I have a very basic knowledge of fishing, however I am looking for some help regarding the kit I would require to start carp fishing properly. I am in the process of buying my own kit (have always used my Dads in the past and he has always set up the rods for me!) and I was wondering if there are any recommendations/ideas for things that I may be missing. My budget is tight so if possible I want to be able to use what I have for regular fishing as well. So far i have managed to source/buy the following-
2x Keenets Rods- 2.5lb test curve
1x Fixed Spool Reel
1x Shimano Baitrunner ST-RA Reel
Keepnet
Rod Pod with 2x sensors
A random selection of hooks/floats/disgorgers/shot
Unhooking mat
Seatbox, and Rod Holdall
Umbrella!
Any help/advice would be gratefully received!
Thanks

Re: Newbie to Carp Fishing

hi, dtj, welcome to the forum, looks like you have covered most of the essentials, there are a few dedicated carp anglers on the forum, who will probably be along later to impart their experience.

depends how focused you are, but possibly a bivvy for allnighters, lights etc.
a steep learning curve, can we enquire how old you are ?

Re: Newbie to Carp Fishing

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the reply.I'm 29, so quite a late starter. I used to fish with my dad when I was much younger, but have been few times over the last couple of months and caught the bug again. At the moment I am going to stick to daytime fishing, as I am still at the point where I need to see what I'm doing, so lights and bivvies are quite far down my list at the moment. I want to get a good base of kit together, and then as and when I become more confident start swapping it out for better gear.
I have read quite a lot on the forum about what seems to be 'bankside etiquette' so I just want to make sure I have got a good starting point, and not annoy other anglers and damage any fish. If I can start with the right mentality then hopefully I will not pick up any bad habits.
Thanks
Dave

What are you unsure about?

Basic etiquette should come fairly naturally, if you have to ask about it I presume you are considerate to others anyway!

My pet peeves are having people fish on top of me when there is space elsewhere and people who cast 3oz leads every 10 minutes!

You seem to have a fair set of tackle so how are you on setting a end tackle up, you need help with that?

Re: Newbie to Carp Fishing

Well done dave, you appear to have the right frame of mind to start with, which is a good thing, next idea would be to accompany a good angler, who has the same ethics, to be able and willing to share tips/baits on waters that you fish.
Most anglers are prepared to divulge infomation readily, a few unenviable characters, get very secretive about these things, dunno why though, perhaps they think that they will be outfished by a noob, when they want their name in the mags, not yours.
One item you should have is an unhooking mat, but i am assuming that you have one, couple of other items could be a set of scales and the all important camera to be able to record your PBs as you get them.
We like to see and admire the catches made.
Most of all enjoy your sport, catching is a bonus.
