| Re: how do i make a zig rig A Zig Rig is a modern name for what we previously called a suspended bait. We used to suspended a bait off the lake bed anywhere between just a few inches off the bottom up to the surface. Below is a picture showing how we used to suspend a floating crust or floating cake on waters where waterfowl were a problem or when there was a heavy ripple on the surface and we didn't want our bait to drift downwind out of our swim. ![]() When it was fished just below the surface it looked like a sodden piece of bread in the process of starting to sink and worked brilliantly we could also sink it out of sight when a duck swam close with a turn of the reel handle, and then raise it once the duck had gone past. We also used to use soft bouyant jelly baits suspended at half depth or just above the silt on a very silty estate lake and caught some excellent fish including some good Bream, Carp and some large Rudd. I am not sure why they started to call it a Zig-Rig instead of a suspended bait unless it is just easier to say; because it wasn’t invented by anyone called Zig, but the new name has stuck. Perhaps it was named after Zig from Anglers Paradise because he used it, I don’t know, but it’s certainly been around in its various guises since as long as I can remember. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now) |
