Re: Out of season?

No probs,
You say you have fished it before, so dont change what your doing. if you find your not getting many takes as what you normaly do in the spots you fish then try fishing the snags as the carp will hold here in the colder months as they feel safe.
In the colder months i tend to fish boilies or particle baits such as peanuts, tiger nuts etc... as i have caught my bigger carp on thease at this time of year. I hope this helps.

The colder months slow down the carps motabalism. There for the carp doesnt need as much food to survive. But thats not saying they wont eat at all. They will just be slower as mentioned. If i was you i would load my feeder up with red maggot and fish with 3 red maggot on the hook and pop it next to some snags or somewere it looks quite in the water. I bet your thinking why 3 maggots? and my answer is i dont know lol its just when i fish with 1,2,4 etc... i dont get a sniff but as soon as i put 3 on bang lol. Thats just me thou.
Cheers Mate Andy

Re: Out of season?

Great advice from the others as usual.

Also; If you are fishing a relatively shallow water up to around 4 or 5ft deep and there is a cold chill in the air; it often helps to fish on the leaward side where the wind isn’t putting the chill into the water so much, especially if there is some mid-day sun around to warm the bottom up; or in a warm sunlit bay especially if there is any weed still present or overhanging branches for the fish to feel safe in or under close by.

Failing that if there is a fair wind then try fishing the downwind side where any drifting food usually ends up.

And don’t ignore the margins; I remember in a club match once in November, the only angler to catch much was an angler who fished tight against his own bank, right under a thick overhanging mass of brambles which was virtually under his rod tip; he won the match with around eight small carp up to around 4 or 5lb each when everyone else struggled to catch silvers, so if you have any depth close in (4 or 5ft) then it’s sometimes worth not ignoring the margins, but don't make too much noise and vibrations.

Have a nice day and let us know how you got on.

Totally agree, dont forget those margins and noise, vibrations etc.... you dont want to spook them.
