Float fishing for carp with pike rod?

Hi, I have a Shakespeare Zenith pike rod (3.6m - 2.5tc) and was wondering whether it could be used for float fishing for Carp? Probably a silly question I know, but do bear with me as it's my first post.

Any helpful advice much appreciated.

Re: Float fishing for carp with pike rod?

Well it depends on what kind of float you are planning to use.

I should think it would be OK with a controller float but useless if you are looking to use a waggler type float.

Re: Float fishing for carp with pike rod?

would have to be a soft through action rod even with a controller float,,broom handle would rip the mouth off the carp or snap the line

Re: Float fishing for carp with pike rod?

as rods that would fit the prupose are so cheap now id avoid it.

It would prob be fine ledgering for them but might be a bit broom handle like for float work

Re: Float fishing for carp with pike rod?

If you take care.you can catch any fish and use any method on any rod..........it is not ideal but not everyone can afford a different rod for different types of fishing........JUST TAKE CARE..............
I only use big carp rods and have one ledgering and one either on top with controller or bubble float in summer or with a waggler any other time ....i tend not to strike on the waggler rather letting the carp take the bait and start running then gently pull into it.........i have NEVER ripped a carps mouth open and have caught hundreds using this method, my mrs uses a waggler on her carp rods and so do many friends and probably hundreds of anglers nationwide,
If you cant afford different set ups, please do not think this style of fishing is not for you , as i said just take care.............mac

PS: i never snap my line either, i have my drag set to allow fish to move freely , but enough for me to take control if needed, in a swim with no snags, reeds etc you can land the biggest of fish on the lightest of lines if your drag is set right and you know how to play a fish.
As i said its not ideal to fish without all the correct equipment but fifty years ago people still fished and still treated fish ok and didnt have any of todays equipment or even understanding.

Re: Float fishing for carp with pike rod?

as mac1 says If you take care.you can catch any fish and use any method on any rod...

most pike rods are 10' in length, when i was younger (oh happy days) i used a pike rod for beach fishing, nice soft action, the line would be caught it the surf and the tip would nod to the rhythm, but still caught fish.
wont hurt to try out what you have, just take care.
