Alternatives to Groundbait, boilies & method feeders

Hi,

last week we fished down at Mill Farm near Pulborough and they have a ban on groundbait, boilies and method feeders. Being a newbie we didn't know what to do and just fished 16mm pellets as hookbait and nothing else.

This got us 4 carp between us so we were very pleased but we want to go back armed with something a little more effective.

I have now found out why boilies are banned while pellets are ok as I was told that boilies tend to pass through the fish undigested as do Tiger nuts and that groundbait is banned because people go a little too mad on it rather than being sensible. This all sounds fair enough.

The fishery web site says that pva bags and particles can be used so I bought some, the guy in the shop said that if they have a boilie ban then they will probably have a nut ban/tiger nut ban as well (although this isn't mentioned on their site) so not wanting to break any rules, I bought some 8mm pellets and some Hemp/Maple mix but beyond that I'm at a loss as to what we can do.

I can't use anything damp/wet in the bag as it will disolve so that rules out soaked and boiled peas/pulses and beans and I need advise on what else I can use that won't break the rules there and more importantly is kind to the fishies.

thanks for your help

we have the same problem here, a way around this is a bag of carp pellet (not trout)place in a mixing bowl with boiling water, how much water is trial and error, leave to soak and soften, add your own additives/mix we use hemp/marmite/oxo/flavouring.knead into a paste fairly stiff, if to wet add some maizemeal, (the stuff they put in with maggots) until its firm, pack into a tupperware box,put in the fridge and cool, use a size 14/12/10 hooks mold paste around the hook and gently lob out using an underhand cast,if its to wet and it drops in the margins add more maizemeal.

best made a couple off days ahead, will keep if kept moist on the bank, wet paper tissue works.
feed boilie sized loose offerings of the same, dozen or so to start.

hope this helps

Re: Alternatives to Groundbait, boilies & method feeders

Not tried it on a lake but i had loads of cockatiel bird seed left over, i boiled it for about an hour adding loads of salt, garlic, pepper, worcester sauce, curry paste and parsley just for a laugh.

I whipped down to the thames in windsor and lobbed out a bucket full, the swim fizzed up big time, you could see the fish coming in for it and jumping out the water, not entirely sure what fish buit it was fun to see.

Doesnt help you out but anything worth a try i guess
