A change to maggots

I have found that when i am using maggots i now keep half alive and wrigling and with the other half i introduce a dye followed by a spray of water to get them slightly damp, i then follow this by adding a bait enhancer or addictive, and following this a flavour i find that a strawberry one works well, try to get the natural flavour one. after i have done this i shake the maggots in a bait box to get all of the flavour spread out. I then put the box in the freezer for the night and in the mornin take it out to let it thaw. In the thawing process the maggots suck all the flavour and are different to normal maggot. I find that this works well for fish such as tench.

Re: A change to maggots

Sounds quite a good method Tj.

Do you buy your flavours/sprays from tackle shops, or is it something that can be bought in supermarkets?

Re: A change to maggots

Yeah, there's an endless amount of baits.

I've made my own pastes, boilies etc.. but never have much confidence in my own baits

Re: A change to maggots

I find that there is nothing better than making your own baits and catching a fish all that effort and you know it pays of. many waters now carp are becoming weary of baits so new things have to be tried. I have found that where i fish prawns work a treat.

Prawns are a great bait, thanks for reminding me as will now be taking some fishing this saturday.

When fishing at reepham once, these 2 blokes next to me were bagging up on tench, and they were huge tench at that, up to around 6lb, one of them even caught the lake record at 6lb 12oz.

Tench are super fish. I have found that the golden tench fight better than the green tench a few people i have spoken to also agree this.
