Scales - Digital or Mechanical

Just got back into fishing after a few years absence and I have a set of the Avons which seem to work fine.

What I do see now is on ebay there are loads of fairly cheap digital scales, these cost a fortune when I was into fishing and I was wondering if the Avon scales would be better replaced by a digital pair!

What do people currently use?

Thanks!

Re: Scales - Digital or Mechanical

keep ur avons .. no need to worry about batterys and you can argue they are more robust eg no delecate elecronics to break.. just get ur avons cheacked for accuracy(i dont know how to go about that though)

Mechanical scales ,calibrated now and again are great , trouble with the digi`s are they break !!! .I have a 3 month old set of Berkleys digitals ,and hey ho the display has already lost some digits on the one side ,so when they die its traditionals again for me ....

Re: Scales - Digital or Mechanical

you could use coins to check the accuracy of your scales, for example a £2 coin weighs 12 grams (you may need a few). you can check the Royal Mints site for other official weights of other coins.

Re: Scales - Digital or Mechanical

I got some of these:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I thought they would be crap for less than £2.50 but they are suprisingly good quality. I had to wait 3 weeks but it was well worth the wait. I havnt used them much but I will let you know if they stand the test of time.
