crikey very open ended question :)

Not sure about the area, have you any waters in mind already?

Best way to start imo is to find some local club waters where you can experiment a bit without feeling out of your depth. Most clubs will have a still water that will have a few decent sized carp in.

What tackle are you going to use?

Re: can anyone help with a newbe?

Hi Dom,

Im very local to you and have fished all the lakes in our area, the carp im holding in my avatar picture was from chichester lakes.
If your looking to catch a few carp try mill farm at bury. They have 3 lakes the best one to start you of would be there mixed lake.
Just get yourself a half decent carp rod and bait runner, load it with 10lb line and get a few hair rigs and your ready.
The best bait i find down there is 16mm halibut pellets with a small pva bag of trout pellets.
The baliff is very friendly down there and will help and give you some very good tips.
When i next go carping i will send you a message and if your free i could meet with you and show you a few pointers. hope this helps

Andy

Re: can anyone help with a newbe?

Hi Dom,

The rods are perfect, you dont have to have bait runners but they are alot better and easyier.
A good bait runner i reccomend at a good price is the wychwood signiture you can get them for around £30.
Ebay would be the best bet i have a couple for back up.
Im of for 3 weeks from today and will be doing alot of fishing so i will defo give you a message and see if you fancy a day. Also i have just moved to chichester so very local to you.

If you need any help in the mean time just reply and i will see if i can help.
A good tackle shop for advice and great gear is aldwick angling in bognor very helpful people and a good range of gear at good prices.

I got a pair of Aero 4000's when I was 9.

I still use the same pair now.

However im not sure if the later models are quite so bullet proof as I haven't used them but you can get them from 50-60 new now.

Re: can anyone help with a newbe?

totally agree with you guys got a pair myself and had them for a few years now there cracking reels. didnt know you could get decent shimanos at that price as i paid over a £100 each for mine but as you say worth every penny.
But for a starter you cant go wrong with wychwood signitures there solid reels and great quality for the money and would last years a highky recommended reel from me.
