Fly fishing for Carp in Gloucestershire

Hi there,
I'm very interested in fly fishing for carp with floating bread and a bread fly in Gloucestershire. I have many years experience in fly fishing and have accidentally caught carp on the fly in some trout lakes. I have all the equipment to deal with carp on the fly and wondered if anyone could reccomend anywhere I could give this a go. Any help would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Henry

Re: Fly fishing for Carp in Gloucestershire

Thanks for the response, the main problem I have come up against is that im not part of any coarse fishing syndicate lakes and nearly all day ticket lakes in the area prevent the use of surface baits in their rules.

I have spoken to two local tackle shops and encountered what I call fishing snobbery where they suggest that all the lakes in the area are specimen carp lakes and no one will be willing to allow you to fly fish for carp. As if fly fisherman are less gentle in some way when they handle fish?? Im not sure. Its proving very tricky to essentially find somewhere to have some fun and try a new fishing method!!

Im hoping to find a water with open minded owners that would allow me to fly fish for carp.

Many Thanks

Henry

Hi Henry not sure if it may help..but you could try the gloucester and sharpness canal £4 a day ticket or even the river severn i dont think many people would mind to much on any day ticket water.. The farmer at tirley court might allow you as he seems preaty laid back and has a number of waters with different size carp in again on a day ticket of about £10 not sure i can help much more without knowing the area your after..

Re: Fly fishing for Carp in Gloucestershire

if you can talk to the husband he is far more relaxed than his wife!! she runs the main lake and if she could ban hooks i think she would.......but he runs 3 smaller lakes on the site and is more like as long as you have paid you can fish how you like within reason..glad to help..henry.
