Flourocarbon!

Fishing tight to overhaning trees and bushes, as my hook lenght... I was using IQ, Florocarbon 15lb, Knotless Knot! Half Blood Knot to swivel, and locked-up.
Had 4 takes over a period of time, each take resulted in the Florocarbon breaking between hook and swivel????

Re: Flourocarbon!

I don't use flourocarbon for my Barbel fishing, but its all I use for trout (fly) fishing.
People sometimes don't realise that although it has some very good qualities, it has to be handled a little bit delicately. It won't tolerate rough treatment, with some brands suffering from chafing more than others.
It also depends on how it was stored at the tackle shop, it won't take kindly to UV light, and will weaken rapidly.
The last thing is that it may just be a bad batch from the manufacturers, as it is difficult to produce in top quality, hence the slightly higher price of good brands.

I would discard the whole spool, and purchase a top end brand, more money, but less snap-offs.
Also, if your tackle box has a clear or semi clear lid, keep the spool somewhere else, preferably in the dark.

Hope this helps.

John

Re: Flourocarbon!

Just as a little side note on this Buckshole, the breaking strains I've used in fly fishing are only up to about 6Lbs, I personally (and it is only my choice) would not use it above 10Lb BS. The physical properties of the material, I feel, are diminished above that weight. I would go back to bog standard mono of a good quality for that.

Re: Flourocarbon!

Also avoid the Korda brand. I've had no end of trouble with IQ as said before ESP ghost.
