| ALWAYS.. Be on the fish! I just want to make a quick point. I know im only a 'Noddy' as people may say... but i do know my fishing. Many angler's turn up to a venue, and dont look for any fish activity. And heavily fish a baited bed and fish it for days on end, then they complain about how this bait doesn't work and how the venue just doesn't seem to be fishing and how dead it is. My own experience of this was on my local fishery (NO NAME), I had just turned up and unpacked the car, and wandered round to talk to the angler's already bivvied up. EVERY angler i talked to said that it hadn't been fishing. "Not a fish for days mate", i thought id take the guy up on this and i said "Okay, 1kg of bait i could pull a high double out", so the bet was met, Literally just after walking down the margin i saw 2 carp huddled up under a snag. Straight away i thought to myself, "FISH ON". As i got to the shallow parts of the venue, i saw a 6-8 doubles cramped under a fallen tree. After travelling down and setting up my bivvy, i went for another look.. :O Nothing... Not a carp in sight. As most angler's look for fish in a swim, bivvy up and they find the fish have moved, they can't be bothered to make the move.. Well that's just lazy. As carp are creatures of habbit. I knew they'd be back. So i didnt move, id thought id be lazy.. (If i was fishing to open water i probably would have moved but i had a distinct feature to fish on) Two single hookbaits tight to this tree overnight. NOTHING :O.. Next morning I walked the margin's and there they were fish hovering over my bait.. CHEEKY B*******! Out went 1kg of boilies. Next day, again nothing, not even a BLEEP, fish were still there, hovering over my bait, WHAT A WASTE OF A KILO? No.... i pulled my rods out, and placed them tight to another snag for the day,, and that evening when i wandered round they had eaten most of the bait. Taking this as a fish or not.. I had casted to the far bank and placed my rig in right underneath the tree. I admit i spooked the fish, but they would be back. I ran round and sat on my rods. 1 Hour later... BBBBBLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPPPPPP! Pull into it and i hit an amazing 23lb mirror. As soon as it got landed and unhooked i sacked it and punched the rod back out, to get the fish while i could. After getting the rod out and safetly returning the fish. I had no time to wipe my hand of slim and water.. Again, another 1 toner.. 16lb common! I left my rods out of the water and baited up again for the night. Early hours of the next morning about 1AM - 2AM i cast to far margin and shuffled in my rigs. No fish were there.. so nothing to spook but i had noticed some bait for pushed around and eaten. Next morning about 6.. I had a very weird take.. Getting it in the net was the worst part as it didnt fit.. IT was only the biggest fish in the fishery at the time, hitting an amazing 30lb 11oz. I knew that was it, i packed up and got my 1kg of bait from my opponent, unfortunatly for him, he had been fishing the venue for 2-3 years and always wanted the 30.. And now hates me lool. But what im trying to get across is that even though moving can get annoying and hard work. BUT it could always pay off.. Or to save yourself the trouble and stalk for a couple of hours before setting up. Im sure glad i did. |
