I took my first ever carp off the surface on Sunday after watching another angler the week before and I think it's a good idea to throw some freebies into the water downwind of the carp, letting them drift towards the carp to get them feeding. Then cast in your hair rigged hook bait and throw some freebies in the hook bait area and let them drift towards the carp. Seemed to work for me. Don't do what I did though and that was to throw the dog mixer straight at the carp, it disappeared fortunately the wind drifted the freebies under an overhanging tree and after a little while I heard this loud slurping sound as the carp sucked the freebies in. So then I cast in the hook bait and a few more freebies and allowed them to drift to the same place. and got a nice 5.5lb common for my troubles. Watch out for geese and ducks though they seem to know when your throwing out your mixer and come running (or flying) from another lake to get your bait. Almost had one, picked up the hook bait and saw the line attached so dropped it pretty quick, LOL. | Wow, dog biscuits, corn, bread, dough balls, hot dogs, bacon, salami, shrimp, sugar cubes, and the list goes on! Is there anything that a carp won't eat? Ya, I know about the birds eating bait. It happens to us all the time on the ocean. "Bird on" is a common call out here!
