| 4mm pellets Hi all I've got a couple of bags of 4mm pellets that I bought in the summer. I've been told by a lot of people that these are too big to use for the method feeder at this time of year. What do you reckon? Would i get away with using them? Cheers J |

| Re: 4mm pellets The theory is when the weather gets cool the fish eat less therefore more/large feed will result in them becoming fuller and not being interested in your bait. Having said that the weather has been fairly mild and warm so the fish should still be actively feeding. Don;t go chucking in buckets full but I think normal method tactics should still be productive. __________________ Species 2011.. | Re: 4mm pellets Hi guys I went fishing yesterday. The place is a 5/6 acre lake and it is in the middle of farmers fields with no tree cover at all. The farmer uses the lake water to water his crops so it is very low and shallow. maximum of about 4 ft. I set my son up and got him fishing and then got fishing on the method. I could see the line hitting the water and it was easy to take in the slack and then get a very small bend in the feeder rod tip. I had 4 nice bream in the first hour on crab pellet. SO the 4 mm pellets I had soaked and mixed into my groundbait were fine. The fish were obviously having them. Anyway, after an hour or so the wind just got nuclear and it was useless. I would cast in and see the wind blow yards of slack line. I couldn't see the line so i was fishing blind. Reeling in until I guessed the slack had been taken up. I'm only using one of those preston feeders with the mould and I was not feeling any resistance when reeling in so I never knew if I had moved the feeder or not. The rod tip was moving all the time in the large gusts of wind and I couldn't even tell if I was getting a bite half the time because the bream don't exactly pull the rod in. Anyway, I foolishly stuck at this for about 2-3 hours, all the time I was also trying to help my lad out. He was using a buzzer but he was getting downhearted and bored and was mainly making the craziest rigs you have ever clapped eyes on. A method feeder along side a pva bag full of pellets was one of them ![]() Anyway I set down and went onto the float section of my cheapo float/feeder combo rod and set up a buzzer. I went onto PVA bags of pellets and the method feeder mix and fished on 10mm boilies and pellets. I got a nice carp about 3-4 lb within the first hour of changing over and then after about another hour it was time to go. I found the PVA bags a nightmare to do in the wind and tying them was a pain in the arse. I'm gonna prepare some in advance next time. So, the 4mm pellets were fine but I wouldn't fish that place again in a hurry. If I did I would not use a method feeder. I was going to just use the method feeder with the buzzer but someone told me last week you shouldn't do that. You should just use a lead. That's why I went on to a lead with pva. Sorry for the book size post ![]() All the best John |

| Re: 4mm pellets Theres no reason why you can't use a method feeder on alarms, it works in the same way as a lead. What PVA you using? the bags or the mesh? I find it easier to prepare pva mesh bags for a session rather than the clear pva bags simply because I tie the clear bag type around my lead and rig. Don't be afraid to use other tactics, if all the other anglers on lake are banging in the method feeder and not catching try something else, you never know you might find a great combo of bait and empty the place... Hope this helps. Tight lines. Hewy __________________ www.thecarpden.co.uk |
