What you fishing for ?
unless its huge carp just use a quiver tip ,just make sure your drag is correctly set. you could use an open bail-arm but this is most likely going to get you tangled or taken into snags

You can do mate, but you will need the patience and resolve of a saint!! quiver rods are dirt cheap so maybe just go and buy one, you can always add something to ur line for bite indication, like a washing up bottle lid, just close it over your line, you may need abit of weight though but this can easily be overcome, using ur method they generally hook themselfs so just have ur clutch set right and you should be fine, just watch mr carp doesent have ur rod in the water! ;-)

I've got a bobbin, bite alarm and a feeder rod, just never got the chance to use them! I also got a pretty good float rod and reel today so dont want to mess about buying another rod really, what I will most probably do is go fishing monday, set up my first rod which is the waggler rig then abit later ill set up a ledger rig, ill just set the clutch pretty light so the carp wont pull my rod underwater!... Cheers for the help

open bail arm , elastic band over spool line tucked under it ., when you get a run ,the line pings from under the band

Simples

Re: New to ledger fishing

Good luck Andy mate! nothin like quiver!! I love it! you could also get one of them strikeback things?? never used em myself but have seen them being used, i think you attatch them somewhere near your reel and it acts like a quiver just not at the end of your rod ;-)
