OK, Walk Me Through Carping I'm a total newb at the Carping game, I have the basics (hair rigs, bite alarm etc) and have ordered a nice TFG Carp Rod & Reel. How do I go about baging my first Carp by ledgering, using corn or meat?

Re: OK, Walk Me Through Carping Basic carp rigs have a look here mate at some rigs personally i would use a running rig , Prebait with the bait of your choice but first of all you have to find them fish location is the key Last edited by NICK R; 08-12-2010 at 08:32 PM.

Re: OK, Walk Me Through Carping Find the fish as nick said... No chuck it and chance so to speak. Start with basic rigs it's hard to get caught up with way to complicated rigs.. I use very very basic rigs which when ppl see them they just dismiss them but are effective. Depending on the size of the fish your targeting to begin with I would use a selection of baits to see what how you get on. I like boilie fishing I use the smallest I can get away with (depending if there is nuisance fish) I tend to fish for a bite not targeting a specific fish. I would get yourself some lead clips to behind with ( like a Korda pack) ad these have full instructions and are easy to put together.

Re: OK, Walk Me Through Carping another one is patrol routes! if the fish arnt visible and you dont have any inside info, these can be easy to spot mate, alot of the natural food a carp will be feeding on will be in the margins ("ignore them at your peril") exp look for out crops of reeds ect, a margin patroling fish will have to go that way if its hugging the bank and looking for food, you ambush them with a patch of bait and your trap, get the marker float out start pocking around for anything unusual like the top of a bar or a deep hole, a gravelly patch in the weed ect! its all about location mate as has been said! also like has been said dont over complicate things, half of thes all singing dancing bells and whistles rigs ar ther to catch the angler as much as the carp! oh and get that line pinned down, either with a leadcore leader with safety lead clip or rig putty, a back lead is always a good idea, never heard of PVA? look it up! its a god send! keep asking thos questions mate, carpings a peice of p**s realy once you have found your feet, make your first season a bagging water, get some fish under your belt, (dont be fooled 5lb-15lb carp go like the clappers) this will give you a stack of confidence for next season and will have you hooked (everyone starts on bashing waters mate) look forward to the first catch report tight lines brother. __________________ SCUPPER A COMMERCIAL TOOOO DAY!

Re: OK, Walk Me Through Carping Well search up on the internet simple run rig, should show some simple run rig set-ups basicly very simple this one get a led clip figure out how to put that on then tie your rig on any hair rig then slot your led clip over the swivel put some bait on the hair rig (You will need a baiting needle) meat or corn what ever your comfertable with then mabye move onto boilies, pellets? As for finding fish this is abit more advanced if they're surfacing this is a complete new setup requiring bread, dog biscuits but stick to bottom, if non are showing look for features as in fall trees, if no features are available try to think about the water and the weather if its dull fish are on bottom try for deeper water if its warm try to find some more shallower water where carp are moving or just have a gamble at a spot. Good luck, tight lines.

Re: OK, Walk Me Through Carping Are pellets any good? I was thinking of trying hook pellet & some trout pellet in a PVA bag on a running rig at Bullock Farm in a couple of weeks.

Re: OK, Walk Me Through Carping My favorite "begginers" baites are Corn, Luncheon meat and Maize", Maize is especially good being a little bigger and more robust than corn, a couple on a hair rig with a cagefeeder or "PVA friendly" Maize in a bag is a constant winner for me. Mix them up with some hemp and/or small pellet in the bag and if the fish are feeding and you can spot some you will be onto a winner. Don't always go for the long chuck, pay attention to the margin area's first, it's much easier to top a swim up with bait if you can throw it out to your hookbait. As others have said, find the fish where possible, you can get the lovliest of conditions and see fish splashing everywhere but if you don't get your bait near them you won't get much.
