hi, i am new to fishing and was hoping for some tips. i have a rod reel and float setup and have been out fishing but im just not sure when to reel the fish in. i see my float go up and down and assume a fish is interested but it never goes under for very long and wen i strike i miss it? can anyone offer any tips to hook them. i think the pond is stocked with carp, roach, ect and i see fish splashing the surface everwhere so assume there is a lot. thanks tom.

Re: new to fishing If its a lake then i cant see why your missing fish unless your hooks are too big ![]() try either a single maggot on an 18 hook or wait that little bit longer untill the float disappears the ones on the surface may be skimmers ![]() Steve __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting

Re: new to fishing also if you see the float go under try just lifting the rod up slowly and if you feel any weight then reel like buggery and you have a fish on..if not then just slowly lower it back ! __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting

Re: new to fishing Sod the float mate! Go to your local tackle shop and ask for a method set-up, get the preston small 30gram inline method and mould, a bag of method mix and away you go!! dunno what rod u have mate? ? dont get me wrong I love float fishing! buy some rigs if you dont make your own. My best results have come from sweetcorn belive it or not so go get a tin ;-)
