blackwater said Fishing = 99% Luck + 1% Skill i personally dont agree with this because i think its the oppisite way around because for example carp fishing when you get to the lake you have to look for showing fish which is hard some times and then you then you have to marker up and then spod up and then you have to chosse the correct rig which is very hard because there is so many out there

so wot do u guys think about this?

ps blackwater i am not singling u out or anything like i was just wondered wot other people think about this mate

definatly got it wrong blackwater sorry mate but its luck to a certain extent but it takes years to hone skills ,tying knots ,rigs ,watercraft how to go about each session fishing different waters what baits to use ect ect so yeh paddy i agree with you mate its not all luck .......

I thik its hard to put an accurate % between skill and luck, as there are so many factors to consider.
If all venues weere identical, all baits the same, all used hooks, leads, rigs floats the same, you could put together a quite a long list.
Simply, skill is very important, luck, well thats also important, but a vairable part to the equation, weather, is that luck? recent pressure on the venue, fate?? Did you have to do something which may have tainted your hands prior to handling bait?? Is there a difference between luck and Fate? Perhaps Nick R, who like to do philosophical things may be of assistance here, me I'm off to help a neighbor with a bonfire.

put two guys with similiar abilities, bait and rigs the same, and who's gonna come out on top ?
the one whos the jammiest !
in the long run say over 12 months the skillfull angler may catch more but its the donkey novice who ends up in the angling press with the new record .
After 20 odd years i know which one i'd rather be

For a beginner it is more luck than skills.

For a pro it is skills then maybe luck.

But as a beginner I can say it is about skills. Luck has limited involvement.

Being a beginner i believe skill is for those who specialise in catching one sort of species and spending time and effort on it.
while i just dip my line into the water and maybe jiggle it for any fish at all - so far i have caught seven species just on one rig- skill or luck in the jiggle!!!!!!

A heck of a lot of cash injection plays just as big a part !
All the top match anglers are travelling miles,spending ridiculous amounts of money on bait and tackle and fishing almost full time .
If i could afford it i would be doing exactly the same mind you

imho, its an uneven balence between the two.
though dumb luck can make a hero of anyone of us at any time .
a mixture of feildcraft & technical knowledge should give greater consistancy.
i grudgeingly take my hat off to carp anglers because to consistantly capture carp that have been caught time and time again and arn't easily fooled takes some doing,
