Safe Non Tangle Rigs?

When it comes to Carp rigs I'm definitely on the simple side. I don't go in for complicated or fancy rigs because in all honesty I don't understand them.

One water I fish is very snaggy and the running ledgers don't seem to have anywhere near as good a hit rate as semi fixed 'bolt rig' but I seem to get in tangles and wonder what I'm doing wrong or what other rigs I could use.

I tend to use a lead clip from which I hang either a bomb or a cage feeder and attached to the swivel that goes into the lead clip I have a braid hooklink or 6-9". I sometimes find though that the hooklink gets wrapped around the bomb/feeder because the hooklink hangs down so close to it. When I cast out I do feather the line to try and stop it all crashing together when it hits the water but I still find I get in tangles.

I've tried using a cage feeder or a feeder boom which certainly prevents tangles but then this is a running rig and doesnt work as well as a semi fixed rig.

What am I doing wrong or is there a better rig to use, would a helicopter rig be better?

Also how can I set up a method feeder that it both safe and semi fixed? The only way I can think of doing this is as a helicopter rig.

Re: Safe Non Tangle Rigs?

There are a couple of things you could try

1. Try using pva foam to mask the hook this will keep the hoolink in the water and slowly let it down thus tangle free

2. make up little funnel web pva sticks and thread them on to your hook length if they are interchangeable this will add weight and stop them from tangling up.

any further questions just ask

good advice

Have you tried shorter hook lengths

you could tie the hook link to the feeder with pva string

Re: Safe Non Tangle Rigs?

if you want a semi fixed method feeder use an inline version like the fox version. Get the right sized swivel and gently pop one end of the swivel back into the feeder where the line comes out. This will keep the feeder from sliding up and down the line but when under tension will pop out of the feeder so its nice and safe. You can always add a rubber bead before you tie on the swivel so its impossible for a fish to get tethered. The latter rig is best done with a 2 or 3 ounce feeder as the weight of it will act as a bolt rig. These rigs are far more streamlined than a helicopter style arrangement.
