New Feeder rod advice.

Hiya,

Im after my very first feeder rod and I don't have a clue what's good or bad so can you guys give me links etc to good feeder rods.
I'm looking to spend about £30, But I want the rod to hold a few pound because the pond I go in has carp up to 30lb.

If you guys could give me links to videos on how to do feeder fish or just tell/explain how to feeder fish then I'll be really appreciative.

Thanks
Fisherman woolley

Forget about the 30lb Carp when it comes to a feeder rod. When fishing you really need to use the right tools for the job. You already have a Carp rod and you should use that to target Carp in the 12lb - 30lb range.

A feeder rod will really only be used to target Silver fish, Tench, Barbel and Carp from 1oz to 10lb range.

You can't really use a Carp reel with a feeder rod either. I mean you can in the sense that the reel will work with a feeder rod but that it's really not suited to the rod and the reel will hold and work with line far stronger than the rod can cope with.

What you need to do is identify what species and size of fish you are going to target with this new rod because what you decide to target will greatly dictate what rod you should buy. For example you would need a completely different rod to tackle Barbel than you would need for Roach and Bream. If you want to go for Carp then you need to aim for the smaller Carp in the 3lb-10lb range primarily and that would again require a different type of rod.

In your price range you aren't going to get a rod that's specifically aimed at a particular species of fish and so will have to judge it's suitability on it's test curve, action and weight/sensitivity of its quiver tip. Because of this your best bet is to go to your local tackle shop, explain what type of fish you are going to target and they'll be able to advise you. Just remember that you really need a different reel or at the very least a different spool with potentially lighter line.

Ok, Well Their are bream, silver fish, road, rudd etc in this pond and take the bream for example, there's one in their about 6lb. I get you, so I can have on my pod my carp rod for tackling the big carp as you say and I can have my new feeder rod for the 10lb bracket fish, And I haven't got a close tackle shop so I don't really know what rod to get, can you guys come up with some ideas to the feeder rod I'd need for tackling 10z to 10lb fish please and the different reel i'd need and also the line i would need, thankyou again.

Re: New Feeder rod advice.

thats a multi tip rod , different casting weights ,it looks ideal for what you want ,

I would personally buy a reel with 3 spools ,each with a different breaking strain of line on so you can change over if and when necessary ,, you will also need a supply of hook links made up in different bs for when targeting different sized fish .

Have a read here
