Hook Line Advice Needed

On a similar matter, with everyone going on about using safe rigs and then in the next breath talking about Method Feeders. How can an inline method feeder, the ones where the mainline connects to a swivel at the top and the hooklink to a swivel at the bottom attached to the feeder by a piece of elastic, be considered safe? Yet I see people using these all the time!
