Rod position question Hi guys I hav always fished with my bite alarms after my first rod ring invade I forget to lossen my drag and I fish slack lines with rod tips lower than the butt. Recently however I have seen people fishing with rods tips up on there alarms and there butt sections resting on the floor. Why is this? I thought it was for weed but that doesn't seem to be the case. Can you fish slack lines like this or not? Many thanks

Re: Rod position question What and have to bobbins on the floor? Do bobbins always have to be on the floor when slack line fishing? How high would the tips be? When slack line fishing do you back lead aswell?

Re: Rod position question bobbins on the floor , tips about 1.5 /2 foot off the floor never fish back leads mate , defeats the object you want your line naturally drop to the bottom as it follows the general contours of the lake bed. A slack line has a better chance of dropping into the groves and troughs or forming to the contours of the weed deposits on the bottom. use a running lead as well edit on the tight line set up it is frightening how far the lead can be moved before a bite is registered and sometimes 4 or 5 meters may only register one single bleep! A slack line set up will register a bite before the lead is even off the ground!

Re: Rod position question How do back lead defeat the object as once you have slackend of the line must be on the bottom? I like to use them to stop wipe outs. Do you just cast out put rod tip underwater and and let it sink by pulling line gently back?

Re: Rod position question i cast out , then keep pulling line off my spool untill the line hangs down about a foot between the eyes , then i have a fag and a brew , then i put on my bobbin, job done lost too many fish with back leads getting caught up in the tip eye in weed using a good fluorocarbon line helps i fish very deep lakes as well

Re: Rod position question Oh never thought of that. I'm thinking of giving this ago... Does the line Go from the rod tip straight the lake or does it like sweep to the bed... So do you let the line sink naturally. Will all line do this? Which ones are better for slack lining?
